CAROLYN SUE POGEMILLER

Carolyn Sue Pogemiller, age 79, of Kansas City, MO, died on April 27, 2017. Services are to be held privately. Burial at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

Carolyn was born at home in Howell County, Missouri to Margaret Blanche Carty Andrews and Theodore Andrews on August 23, 1937. She grew up in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri, attending the Raytown Consolidated School District.

Carolyn married Raymond LeRoy Pogemiller on August 20, 1955. They were blessed with two daughters and two grandchildren. LeRoy, deceased February 6, 2012, and Carolyn were married 56 ½ years. A joint focus during the first 12 years of their marriage was LeRoy’s completion of his doctorate in music, prefacing 30 years in education and administration at the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance. Music was always an important and integral part of their union.

For 20 years, Carolyn worked for the Metropolitan YWCA serving as Associate Executive Director and was chief financial administrator. During that time she earned her Bachelor’s degree at UMKC in elementary science education. She then taught in the Kansas City Missouri School District. Retirement ensued due to health issues.

Carolyn is survived by daughter, Margaret Coffey Berardo and husband, Dr. Marcellino Berardo; daughter, Teresa Pogemiller Farley and husband, James Farley; granddaughter, Dr. Alison Farley Raffle and husband, Rocky Raffle; grandson, Adam Farley; sister, Elizabeth Ann McCoy and husband, Dr. Layton McCoy; sister, Barbara Cressman and husband, Richard Cressman, Jr.; two brothers, Robert Joseph Andrews and Dr. John Ernest Andrews and one sister, Margaret Louise Andrews predeceased her.

In lieu of flowers, Carolyn would have been pleased that contributions be sent with a note designating the LeRoy Pogemiller Scholarship Fund to UMKC Foundation, Room 229 Administrative Center, 5100 Rockhill Rd., K.C. MO 64110.
