Josephine "Josie" La Scala passed away on April 30, 2017 in Gilbert, AZ. Josie was born on January 8, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York to Joseph and Mary Banco.
Josie graduated from Lafayette High School in Brooklyn, New York in 1951. She was the Lafayette News Representative and Secretary of her graduating class. According to her yearbook, her aspiration was to be a "Success in the business world". Lawrence Zieger known famously as "Larry King" was in Josie's graduating class.
Her first job was as a stenographer. She then got a job at Oldbury Chemical Company. After acquiring 1 year experience as a bookkeeper, she was able to apply for a position with Smith Barney on Wall Street. Josie enjoyed the fast paced environment in the Financial District of New York.
Josie married the love of her life on May 23, 1954 and continued to work at Smith Barney until she was 7 months pregnant with her first child, Deborah in 1959.
Her second child, Mark was born in 1967. Josie continued to be a wonderful wife and stay at home mom until she decided to get back into the workforce once again as a Bookkeeper at Murphy School District in Phoenix in 1977. A year later she applied for a position at the ASU Athletic Department where she remained until her retirement in the late 90s.
Josie's guilty pleasure was playing any poker machine whether hand held at home, or at any Casino in Arizona or Vegas.
She was the most selfless, loving and fiercely loyal daughter, niece, mother and friend.
Josie is survived by her daughter, Deborah La Scala, son Mark La Scala, son-in-law David Knight, daughter-in-law Maria La Scala, granddaughter Nicole Knight and Great Granddaughter Devin Bennis.
A memorial service will be held for Josie on May 8, 2017 at 200pm at Lakeshore Mortuary in Mesa, Arizona with a reception to follow.
