June Rowell-Amesbury Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 3, 2017.

June Etollia Rowell-Amesbury was born June 3, 1924 in Citronelle, Alabama to Gertrude Holloman-Rowell and James Edward Rowell. June was the first of seven children and the first grandchild of John Wesley and Inez Rowell.

June grew up in Citronelle and attended New Home Baptist Church where she gave her life to Christ as a young girl. June graduated from Citronelle High School and then moved to Mobile, Alabama and worked for the Corp. of Engineers as a clerk typist during WWII. While working at the Corp., she met a young man just home from the war name Robert (Bob) Earle Amesbury. The two began dating and sharing Bob's lunch (ham sandwiches and pound cake). Their relationship grew into a courtship of two years and they were married on November 20th, 1948. Soon they began their family of three children David (1952), Steven (1954), and Pam (1960).

They moved to Huntsville in 1965 and joined Hillwood Baptist Church. June taught Sunday school for years sang in the choir, active in WMU, and served with meals on wheels and much more. June was always busy serving family, friends, and the church. She was a wonderful cook and loved entertaining. June also enjoyed her flower gardens, camping, picnics and outings with her friends and family. June had a positive approach to everything in life! She was always doing good for others and never had herself in mind!

In 1981 when Bob retired they traveled much of the US and spent time together sightseeing, in this great country we live in. June loved "The Lord" and always put Christ first in her life. She and Bob were married 68 wonderful years! She was a loving wife and mother and friend to all who knew her and will truly be missed by all.

June is survived by husband, Robert (Bob) E. Amesbury; children, David G. Amesbury (Tammie), Steven E. Amesbury (Debbie), Pamela A. Clearman (Charles);grandchildren, Christopher R. I grew up knowing June as a kid across the street. I'm grateful for the memories and love that I have known from her. I always enjoyed seeing June when coming home, just so I could say hello and maybe even talk to her and Bob. I breaks my heart to hear of her passing. June will be greatly loved and missed.

I am honored to have known June for the past 30 years and humbled to have called her friend. June was one of the sweetest people I have known. I will remember her best for her warm front porch greetings, like she was just waiting for you to lift your spirits. Though I am sad at June's passing, I know she is celebrating in her new home getting her front porch ready to greet family and friends when they arrive. I will cherish my memory of her.
