Edward Huson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 5, 2017.

Edward Voelker Huson August 14, 1923 - May 3, 2017
On May 3, 2017 at 11:32 PM, Edward Voelker Huson, age 93, went to be with the Lord. His wish to pass in the presence of family was fulfilled. Ed was born on August 14, 1923 in Mullen, Nebraska in a farmhouse to Elizabeth and Edward Byron Huson. He was the 7th of 8 children. The family moved to Oregon where Ed lost his dad at the age of five, and was raised by his mother and siblings. As a young child, in order to help the family, he began working at a nearby dairy farm milking cows in exchange for a few bottles of milk per day. With the help of the Lord, the family survived the Great Depression and later moved to San Francisco in search of better opportunities.

At 17 years of age, his mother signed his enlistment papers so that he could go into the Navy during WWII. He fought in Germany and Japan, from 1941-1945, including D-day and various battles in the Pacific. After returning from the war to San Francisco, he married Myrthle Synove Johnson on January 10, 1948, and the next year their first son, Ronald Edward was born.

Ed worked as a union carpenter in the Bay Area for several years in addition to being a pastor at Half Moon Bay Assembly of God. A few years later Ed and the family moved to Kettle Falls, WA, to pastor at Kettle Falls Assembly of God, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing with members of his church.

In 1956, Bethel Christian Church in San Francisco sent Ed, his wife, and son to Brazil as missionaries. In 1959 their second son, Rodney Albert, was born in the city of Poços de Caldas. Ed's life was an active demonstration of the Lord's faithfulness. He and Myrthle served in Brazil for 37 years, where they founded and built numerous churches, which continue to grow and thrive. Ed's sons followed his footsteps by becoming ministers. Ronald pastored in various cities in CA, including Hayfork, Oakdale, Riverbank, Waterford, and Denair, while Rodney continues the missionary work in Brazil. Ed was very active and supportive in the ministries of both of his sons. Ed enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, visiting and encouraging them, and telling them stories of his time in the Navy and on the mission field.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife, and seven siblings. He will be missed by his sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Susi Huson, and Rodney and Coral Huson, his 5 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

A public visitation will be held on Friday, May 12th, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at Lakewood Funeral Home, 900 Santa Fe Ave, Hughson, CA. A celebration of life will follow in the chapel beginning at 11:00 AM, followed by a graveside service. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to "Equipping to Serve Brazil" (ESB), PO Box 2426, Oakdale, CA, 95361.
