Reverend Dwight Milton Ashmore died May 4, 2017 at the age of 80 in the TRU Care Community Center Hospice in Boulder, CO. Milton was born on February 10, 1937, in Dallas, TX to Fred and Esther (Christensen) Ashmore. He attended Sunset High School in Dallas and attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX, where he received his Bachelor's degree in Religion in 1960 and then attended Brite Divinity School at TCU, where he received his Master's degree in Religion in 1963. He was ordained as a Minister in the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in 1963 at Central Christian Church, Dallas, TX. He served in that capacity for over forty years, serving churches in Gatesville, TX (as a student minister) and serving full-time ministries in Fabens, TX; Lamesa, TX, Lake Jackson, TX, Farmington, NM, Beeville, TX; Victoria, TX and Laredo, TX.
Milton married Carol Sue Allen on June 25, 1960, at the Oak Cliff Presbyterian Church in Dallas, TX. They grew up together and had known each other since they were born. They attended the same kindergarten, elementary school, junior high school, high school, and college. They began dating at TCU. They raised two sons, Scott and Mark, and were married 56 years and retired to Superior, CO in 2002.
Milton had a fantastic sense of humor and loved to tease everyone. He led several Trail Conferences for high school and college-age youth in the Texas Coastal Plains Area of the Christian Church, taking them backpacking for a week in the Trapper's Lake Area of the White River National Forest near Meeker, CO. He was President of the Salvation Army in Laredo, TX on several occasions. He loved to sing and was a member of a Boulder Chorale and the Laredo Philharmonic Chorale, he was president on several occasions, and the Cairn Christian Church Choir. He was the first Elder Emeritus at Cairn Christian Church, Lafayette, CO. He helped coach his sons' little league Baseball Team and at one time was an avid bicycle rider. He loved the mountains, especially Vail and Beaver Creek.
He grew up attending Central Christian Church, Dallas TX. and was president of his youth group. He loved the church and being a minister. He helped start a day-care center for poverty level children in Freeport, TX (near Lake Jackson). He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenneth Wayne Ashmore, of Highland Village, TX. He is survived by his wife Carol of Superior, CO and by his two sons, Kenneth Scott (Lynette) Ashmore of Leola, PA and Mark Allen Ashmore of Superior, CO, and three grandchildren, Rachel of Leola, PA, and Avery and Ryan of Boulder, CO, and a sister-in-law, Dianne Ashmore, of Highland Village, TX.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, May 22nd , at 11:00 am at Cairn Christian Church, Lafayette, CO. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Memory of Rev. I am so sorry to hear of Milton's passing. He was the pastor who baptized me at the First Christian Church in Lake Jackson. Have many fond memories of him. Prayers of peace and comfort are lifted for you Mrs. Ashmore, Scott, & Mark.
