Kathleen Ann (Kerschen) Borniger 70, passed away at home May 8, 2017. Kathy comforted the sick and guarded the vulnerable. She was the head nurse on duty in the Watkins Hospital clinic when the Kansas Union was burned in 1970 and when the KU Computer Center was bombed a few months later. Kathy spent most of her working life as the school nurse at St. Thomas Aquinas in Wichita, and she was fiercely proud of it. She took delight in ensuring the physical and emotional well-being of children, the ultimate innocents. In her own words: "Sometimes it takes a child to show us the best in ourselves." Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Syl and Polly Kerschen; brothers, Jerry and Paul; and a sister, Sylvia. She is survived by her husband, Tom; sister, Beth (Ken) Johnson; daughters, Amy (Luke) Snow and Kate (Robert) Gonzales; son, Chris (Ashley); and five grandchildren, whom she loved wholeheartedly. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday, May 15, and Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, both at St. Joseph Church, 145 S. Millwood Ave., Wichita. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Victory in the Valley, 3755 E Douglas Ave, Wichita, KS 67218.

Thomas, so sorry for your loss. I was wondering about St. Joe grads today and came across the obit searching for you. She was the namesake of a tremendous saint and passed during the month of our Mother Mary, the spotless Flower in Heaven. She now knows the critical secrets of this 100th anniversary of Fatima. Praise God. Henry Buscher, Chalmette, La. [email protected] (5049390448)

Tom! I'm so sorry for your loss and your family's loss. Kim Hagan told me about Kathy's passing at a much too young age. I was very surprised. I remember you adored her and I'm sure she was a wonderful person.

Kathy Borniger was a beautiful human being, always funny, always giving. She cared about everybody, and her family was her life. A true friend to all, she will be sadly missed. May you rest in comfort and peace, Kathy. Keep up with your woodworking projects up there, and share a glass or two with Kay Brunton! Love you!

I am sorry for your loss. May you have comfort in the thought at Romans that we are "convinced that neither death ... will be able to separate us from God's love that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." May you have peace during these trying times.
