Alice Mae Allard, 74, passed away peacefully at her home in Apache Junction, AZ in the morning hours of May 4, 2017. She was born in Muskegon, MI on April 24, 1943 to Claude and Gertrude (Augur) Herald.
Alice married Ed Allard on November 12, 1966. She obtained a nursing degree from Hackley School of Nursing in Muskegon; she worked in various nursing capacities until she and Ed both retired in 1999 to embark on a journey of full-time RVing before settling down in Apache Junction in 2009.
Affectionately called "Maw Squaw" by Ed, Alice enjoyed crafting – knitting, crocheting, macramé, and painting ceramic figures. She could usually be found with a book of word or number puzzles close to one hand, and her ever-present cup of Café Francais coffee in the other. She loved walking the beaches and the sand dunes along Lake Michigan's eastern shore.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, and her two brothers Jim and Don Herald. She is survived by "Ed'rd" (her husband of fifty years) of Apache Junction; two sons Mike (Barb) Allard of Brazil, IN and Bob (Jen) Allard of Elgin, IL; two granddaughters Beth (Joel) Yoder of Terre Haute, IN and Sara Allard of Brazil, IN; and two cousins, Esther Moul of Hart, MI and Judith Beall of Gaines, MI.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mariposa Gardens of Mesa, AZ. At Alice's request, she will be cremated. A memorial service may be scheduled for a later date. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, her family asks that any desired donations be made in Alice's name to Escapees CARE, Inc., 155 CARE Center Drive, Livingston, TX 77351.
