Rick Dovell, 68, of Kansas City, MO formally of Maitland, MO passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. Rick was born October 25, 1948 in St. Joe, MO to Joe and Erma Lee Dovell. A graduate of NWMSU and a veteran of the US Army and served proudly during the Vietnam War. On September 15, 1990 he married Carla Dorrel. Rick was a self-employed, self-taught carpenter but his true love was being on the family farm in Maitland.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Joe Jr.; his sister, Nicki; and his grandparents, Joe, Sr. & Rada Dovell and Bill & Jesse Collison.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Carla; mother, Erma Lee Dovell; 4 daughters, Kelley (Garry) Maddox, Blair (Kris) Gross, Sarah (Joshua) Curtis, and Skylar Dovell; 3 sisters, Vicki, Cynthia, and Christine; 9 loving grandchildren, Emelia, Talya, Josiah, Arianna, Elijah, Garry “Trey”, Ethan, Landry, and Charles.
Graveside services will be 11 AM Monday May 22, 2017 at Maitland Cemetery, Maitland, MO. Visitation will be 2-4 PM Sunday May 21, 2017 at White Chapel Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the American Legion Posts 61 KC, MO or 256 Maitland, MO.

Rick, so sorry to hear you're gone. i'm so glad we had some time to talk on the phone a few times these last few months. I't always hard to have family 1800 miles away and i'm so thankful you were able to make it to Dad's funeral, i wish i could make it tomorrow... Rest in piece and say hi you ,my family.
