Osa Lamar Andrews III passed away peacefully on May 17, 2017 after a sudden illness. Lamar was born in Birmingham, AL to Evelyn Bell Andrews and Osa Lamar Andrews Jr. He was preceded in death by his father and his sister Frances Andrews Robins. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Holbert Andrews, his mother, his sister Virginia Andrews Blackmon (John), Calera, Alabama, and his daughter Kathryn Andrews (Hans-Peter Thomas), Los Angeles, California. Lamar was a graduate of Birmingham University School and an Eagle Scout. He graduated from the University of Alabama where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Throughout his life he was an avid Alabama football fan and Tide Pride member. After college he began a career in insurance at SMIS Inc., and later became Senior Broker at Van American Insurance Services. In 2011 he became President and Co-Owner of Commercial Sector Insurance Brokers. He was also an active leader at All Saints Episcopal Church, serving as an usher, a vestry member, and as co-chair of the stewardship committee. In 2010 he completed the Theology Program with the Education for Ministry.
Lamar will be remembered by friends, family, and colleagues as extremely warm, gregarious, and mischievous. He never met a stranger; he was a friend to all. He lived fearlessly and with gusto, approaching every situation as an opportunity to connect deeply with people while having fun. Lamar wanted others to know they were important. He touched people's lives and left them smiling.
A celebration of life will be held for family and friends on Friday May 19 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 110 W. So grieved to hear today that Lamar had passed on. There was already a shortage of his kind of soul and now we have one less. I really enjoyed my interactions with Lamar; I can only imagine how deeply he will be missed by those who were fortunate to have known him better or worked more closely with him. God bless you all.

Words can't express my sympathy to the family of Lamar during this time of sorrow. Lamar was one of those people who just lit up the room by just being him and we are all absolutely heartbroken to hear of his passing. I was honored to know Lamar and work with him in the insurance industry and he will be deeply missed. He truly was one of life's "great ones" and our world will shine a little less bright without him. Our sincerest sympathies and condolences to his wife, family, friends and dear colleagues at Commercial Sector.
