Mary Hosmer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 22, 2017.

Mary "Jean" Gatchell Hosmer passed away on May 17, 2017. She was born April 10, 1922 to the late Lucy J. (Wilcoxon) and Floyd Brunner Gatchell of Urichsville, Ohio. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Robert Samuel Gatchell and her husband, Rowland Frank "Ozzie" Hosmer, director of instrumental music in Bay Village, Ohio.
After graduating from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio, Jean married Ozzie on November, 2, 1944. They lived most of their life together in Bay Village where they were active members of the community. Jean practiced as a registered nurse at area facilities, including Lakewood Hospital and the Welsh Home. She was a member of Bay Presbyterian Church where she participated in circle groups and became a trained Stephen's Minister following Ozzie's death. Jean enjoyed many friendships through her involvement in Village 100 and Women's Clubs of Bay Village and Avon Lake. Jean was a voracious reader and her interests included playing in several bridge clubs, traveling with friends and family, spending time with her children, "grands", and "greats" and eating dark chocolate buttercreams and Bill's donuts.
She is survived by three daughters, Carol (Rand) German of Del Mar, CA, Linda (Robert) Albus of Kiawah Island, SC, and Molly (Scott) Spears of Dayton, Ohio. She has six loving grandchildren, Eric (Laura) German, Garth (Ariana) German, Sheryl (Geyer) Jones, Scott (Justine) Albus, Erin (Jeff) Ledford, Kyle Spears and his girlfriend, Rachael Zimmerman and eight great grandchildren, Angela German, Jackson and Savannah German, Megan and Ella Jones, and Tyler, Zachary, and Cameron Albus. We feel very fortunate that the entire family gathered together with Jean last month to celebrate her 95th birthday and see her nursing career recognized by the Hospice Nurse Honor Guard.
Memorial services will be held at Lakewood Park Cemetery in Rocky River, Ohio at the convenience of the family.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff of The Carlyle House and Hospice of Dayton. The loving care they provided will always be remembered. Instead of flowers, the family suggests donations can be made to Ohio Hospice of Dayton and the Cuyahoga County Public Library.
