Albert Douglas Umphlett "Doug", 63, of Marietta went to be with the Lord early Monday morning, May 22, 2017. Funeral services will be held at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral home in Kennesaw. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Thursday, May 25th. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 p.m. Dr. Nelson Price will be officiating. Interment will be at noon, Friday, May 26th at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
Doug was a native of Greenville, North Carolina and lived in Marietta since 1960. He graduated from Marietta High School in 1972. He was a member of Roswell Street Baptist Church and a faithful member of the choir when he was able. One of the highlights of his life was a trip to the Holy Land with the choir. Doug never let his handicap keep him down. He never complained and is remembered as being kind, caring and determined.
He is preceded in death by his father, A.D. Umphlett, and his mother, Virginia Simpson Umphlett. He is survived by his brothers, John Umphlett (Melissa), Francis Umphlett and his sister, Alice Covington (Charlie); one niece, Amy Wuellner, and four nephews, Johnny Williams, Brad Umphlett, Chadd and Kyle Covington.
