Robert Milton Jones passed quietly from this life in his home on May 22, 2017. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 10:00a.m. at Broadview Baptist Church, with the funeral service starting at 11:30a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery.
Robert was born in Abilene, TX on December 4, 1931 to Roy Milton Jones and Ione Wilson Jones. In 1951, Robert his high school sweetheart Norma Trantham and they served side by side until her death two years ago. Robert was an outstanding athlete in Abilene High School, a talent he continued to display during his time in the Marines where he was a pitcher with a 22-2 record while batting .502. Robert joined the Marine Corp as soon as he finished high school and served from 1951-1953. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Robert enjoyed much success in life and nowhere was the success more evident than in his craft as a Journeyman Electrician. After working many years for top electrical companies in Abilene, he became city electrical inspector and retired in 1995, having served in that position for 15 years.
At the age of 9 while attending Vacation Bible School, Robert surrendered his life to Christ. His deep love for God and His kingdom never wavered after that. Through the churches in which he served, he was always on the front line of ministry. Whether teaching a group of kids, using his craft without charge among his friends and neighbors, serving as a deacon, or so many other things, he was always all in. A selfless giver, he quietly sent kids to church camp, gave scholarships to beginning college students, and sent may people on international mission trips. With charge, he spent hours maintaining the electrical service on the churches where he held membership.
Not only did he make it possible for scores of people to engage in mission work, he was himself an active volunteer in missions. He was involved in the construction of 15 churches and went on 20 mission trips himself in Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oregon, and New Mexico. He was active in volunteering in a number of other ways including Meals on Wheels and Hospice of the Big Country, where he was active until a few weeks ago.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma; two brothers, Joe Jones and Roy Jones; and one sister, Bernice Jones Black. He is survived by a sister, Eileen Webb; sisters-in-law, Inez and Judi Jones; and by a number of nieces and nephews; as well as an untold number of friends and fellow Christians.
Donations in Robert's memory may be made to Broadview Baptist Church or Hospice of the Big Country or a favorite charity.

Robert Jones was an inspiration to me. Every time I came to church he greeted me with a welcome smile. He was always serving God at the church and anywhere God needed him. I will truly miss his presence. I was so sorry to hear that he has left this world but I know he is an angel and will be with the love of his wife, Norma. Blessings to the family during this time of sorrow.
