Dennis M. Bell, a longtime Sacramento resident, died on the afternoon of May 18, 2017, the day of his 21st wedding anniversary. Dennis worked as a surgical technician in the early 60's at Sutter General Hospital before moving to Sutter Memorial Hospital in the later 60's to 1980. He joined John Herzog in 1980 and was instrumental in forming the company known as Herzog Surgical. As Director of Purchasing, Dennis was employed with the company for 35 years and retired on August 1, 2015.
He was born in Spokane, Washington. His father was in the Air Force so the family lived in several places including New Jersey, New Mexico and eventually California. As a young man, he enjoyed bowling and was an avid water skier. He always had a special fondness for the "Snoopy" character created by Charles Shultz and had quite a collection of Snoopy memorabilia.
Dennis married Carol (Goughnour) Brown on May 18, 1996. Together, they enjoyed traveling especially to Mendocino and Maui, HI. In recent years, they also took cruises to Alaska, Quebec and the Eastern Caribbean. Their last adventure was a cruise through the Panama Canal in February of this year, which fulfilled an item on his bucket list – "a trip of a lifetime!"
Dennis was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Bell. He is survived by his wife, Carol and his father, William Bell.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Anthony Church, 660 Florin Road, Sacramento, CA on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 11:00 am with a reception to follow in the church hall.
Dennis had a great love for his Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Ocki and Bernadette – the little loves and companions of this life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Sacramento SPCA, 6201 Florin Perkins Road, Sacramento, CA 95828
