LeRoy James Niebuhr, age 71, of Elk Grove Village. US Army Veteran. Beloved husband of Karen Marie Niebuhr, nee Taylor. Loving father of Robert Niebuhr, Richard Niebuhr & Nicole (Thomas) Summins; dear grandfather of Justin Niebuhr, Jordan Niebuhr, Kayla Summins and Natalie Summins; dear brother Jerry (Alice) Niebuhr and the late Ken (Vivian) Niebuhr. Visitation Thursday, May 25, 2017, from 3 PM to 9 PM at Lauterburg-Oehler Funeral Home, Arlington Heights. Lying In State Friday, May 26, 2017, from 10 AM to Time of Service 11 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 675 E Algonquin Rd., Des Plaines, IL 60016. Interment Memory Gardens Cemetery Graveside.

I always had the best time with the Niebuhr family. They all have a wonderful sense of humor. I think the Niebuhr boys Leroy,Bobby and Rich were in their element the most when we were all fishing. If the fish were biting I can still hear Leroy laughing out loud with every fish that he caught, especially if he was out fishing everyone else in the boat. I'll never forget the first time on the boat that Leroy looked at Bobby and Rich and said (I love you guys) he said it so easy to his adult children you can tell he was so proud of them. I also seen him light up like that when talking about his daughter Nicki and his wife Karen, and grand children. I pray that their family have many years of good health and happiness. So Sorry To Hear Of Leroys Passing Karen And Family. He Will Truly Be Missed. Will Always Remember The Good Times. High School,MotorCycles,Centel,Playing Cards With His Mom, Softball,Bowling. I Can Go On Forever About Him And His Family. He Was Like A Brother.

Karen, I am truly heartbroken for you and your entire family to learn that Leroy is gone. He was my first crush when I was a young girl. He made everyone who came into his life laugh and he became instantly likeable!! I have such fond memories of him that will continue to make me chuckle as they cross my mind. Never a dull moment when Leroy was around. He has so many loved family members that were waiting to greet him with smiles and open arms.....especially his mom, Helen (Aunty Helen). I can still hear her laughing.....we all know where Leroy got his from!! I will keep you in my prayers during this difficult and emotional journey. ~Suzie~

Dear Karen, I was so sorry to learn of Leroy's passing. Please accept my condolences to you, your family and to all who loved him. I have such fond memories of the friendship shared by Leroy and my (late) brother Jerry, particularly during their teen-age years. Leroy was like a part of the Matula family back then. I know my mom and dad had great affection for Leroy, too. I like to think that the four of them have reconnected in another, better place where they can reminisce, laugh and perhaps even toss back a beer or two. That image makes me smile.

Karen: so sorry to hear of Leroys passing. I have fond memories of when leroy, jerry and I were young and did crazy things with our motorcycles. And also when we all worked together at Centel. So many funny stories, hard to beleive he's gone. But he and his great laugh will never be forgotten. He was one in a million. Condolences to you and your family. Very sorry for all of you.

Our family sends our thoughts and prayers to the Niebuhr family over the loss of Leroy. Although we had relocated to Washington State some 39 years ago, we stayed in constant contact with the Niebuhr family. On every trip back to the Chicago area we made it a point to spend some time with the family, and every time we came back you never knew what new toy or talent LeRoy had acquired; be it a beach buggy, street rod or his talent for building bird houses. We were looking forward this summer to seeing LeRoy fly his new toy drone, if the FAA had not already grounded LeRoy for navigating his drone as if it were a street rod. LeRoy was never one to mince words as he meant what he said and said what he meant. We will miss him, his sense of humor and that one of a kind laugh.
