GRIFFITHS, Sandra Ann (nee Walter), 75, on Thursday, May 25, 2017. Beloved wife of 20 years of Larry Griffiths; loving step-mother of Debbie Geno, Dawn (Jim) Simon, and Don (Charlotte) Griffiths; dear grandmother of Michelle (Andy) Wall, Emily Geno, Janie (Jason) Kern, Jimmy (Laurie) Simon, Matt (Fadia) Simon, and Andrea (Ole) Eiker; great grandmother of Mason, Harper, Landon, Hunter, and Charlie; dear sister of the late Fred Walter.
Born in St. Louis to Fred and Dorothy (nee Mark) Walter, Sandy joined the StLCCA in the mid 1960's, serving as president and leader of the organization for over 40 years, until her retirement in 2007. She managed hundreds of volunteers and thousands of carolers, produced recordings, holiday cards, and Christmas Carols Festivals in addition to the annual neighborhood caroling, all to benefit children. Under her guidance, the StLCCA provided over 70 area children's agencies with thousands of dollars in funds to support their efforts. The St. Louis Christmas Carols Association exists today because of her dedication to the organization, its history and its mission. She also was a dispatcher for the Clayton and Richmond Heights Police Departments. She and Larry married in December of 1997 after 10 years of friendship and love.

Larry, I just learned of Sandy's passing and I am so sorry for your loss. On behalf of my late husband Gene Cowen (your old classmate and friend), even never having met your Sandy, I can see how charming she was from her photos. May God be with you as you face each tomorrow.

A Life
A life is like the brightest flame.
So bright it puts the sun to shame.
It sheds the rays of love and peace,
and spreads it's warmth like a golden fleece.
We share the brightness and take it in,
where It fills our cup and flows out again.
It waxes and wanes but is always there.
When it's light is low we show we care.
We prop it up with shining beams,
with sturdy thoughts and golden dreams.
But flames go out, when the death knell calls.
Like the edge of night and darkness falls.
The flame grew dim, then flickered out.
Our love flared brightly, and cast about.
But the flame was gone, we feared to say,
then our love burst through, like the break of day.
It brought the flame to life again,
Not for us to see, but deep within.
For the flame can never really die,
It's only gone from the touch and eye.
It warms our heart and soul you see,
for it's ours to keep, for eternity.

Larry - It is with a heavy heart that I offer this prayer; May God's strength, and peace which surpasses all understanding, be continually with you and your family.
Sandy brought such joy and inspiration, a true blessing in my life. I only wish I could have known her much sooner. However, so very thankful to have known her and proud to say she was my friend.

"It is with a saddened and pained heart our dear friend and coworker Sandy Walter-Griffiths passed away. Sandy was one of THEE classiest of ladies we ever met. Her beauty was enough to bring tears to your eyes. She had an infectious, witty sense of humor and a heart of gold. She absolutely ADORED her husband and LOVED soooo much her step-children and step-grandchildren. Sandy was also a best friend and beloved daughter to her mother.they were the dynamic duo to all who knew them. She was my mentor. I know a GEM when I see one!!! I was also her protégé! I loved her with all my heart, as do many others as well. Sandy grew up in Clayton and was a life-long resident until she married Larry and put her sweet mother to rest. She also gave many, many years of service as a police and fire dispatcher to the Clayton PD. She loved our officers and their love was dually returned to her. Sandy could bring an officer to pause' with her wit and charm like no other! She proudly loved a nickname of Stand By Sandy and even one that she called herself Double Dipper. AGAIN, her sense of humor was humbling and so Contagious! We still speak 'Sandyisms' to this day and talk about her with so much love and sincere, contagious laughter! Sandy dedicated many, many countless years to the St. Louis Christmas Carols Association, which was founded by the Danforth family. Sandy was the backbone of this organization, which aided numerous children's organizations in St. Louis. Sandy's vivaciousness and effervescent beauty both on the surface (gosh she was so pretty!) and the beauty in her heart (even prettier!) are all that one would find to want to duplicate! Fly High Our Dear Friend. Watch over us and give of "sweet hints" of yourself, so that we can be more perfect like you were . To Sandy: Janet and I were talking tonight and a Cardinal flew up and sat on my boys pitch back WE KNEW IT WAS YOU!"
