Jo Angell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 29, 2017.

Jo Ann Angell, 80, of Austin, Texas left this world on May 29, 2017.

She is survived by her sister, Nellie Maddox, her five children; Robert Scott and partner Cindy Coleman, Cindy Lind and husband Jack Lind, Vanessa Proud, Scarlett Angell, and Julie Taylor and husband Curtis as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lamar Angell, her grandson Michael Leon Clark, her parents, Joe and Dulce Winslett, and her brother Clifford Winslett.

Jo Ann was born in Austin, Texas on April 4, 1937. She would live many places but would spend most of her life here and call Austin home always.

Jo Ann was a true southern lady with all the sweetness, charm and sass that the term embodies. A woman of wit and intelligence; she was proud of her diverse and full life. She graduated with honors from the school of hard knocks. She held a top secret clearance on the oceanography projects at Tracor. She managed the King Burger restaurant on Guadalupe and knew Daryl Royal there, raised five children, quilted, painted, danced and laughed (a lot). Her children have fond memories of her breaking into dance at home when a song she liked would come on.

She was devoted to family and had a strong bond with her sister Nellie whom over time was both sister and beloved friend. Jo Ann loved people and gave the same energy and enthusiasm to her friendships as she did to everything. She never let anyone she knew spend a holiday alone and welcomed them into her home many time. She truly had a heart of gold.

Family meant everything to her; she would tell stories of summers spent swimming in the river with cousins, hooking a fishing line to a watermelon and lowering it into the river so that it was ice cold by lunch; taking the bus with her sister and brother to Woolworths on Congress and having vanilla Cokes and chocolate Dr. Peppers; Dancing at the Skyline dance hall; going to Camp Ben McColloch reunions; Attending rodeos with her husband Lamar and children… time with family and friends were what brought her the utmost joy.

She will be missed by so many, and her children will hold her in their hearts as she always held them in hers.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 2, 2017 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with Dr. Kevin B. Hull, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.

Honoring Jo Ann as pallbearers will be Larry Dorsett, Jeff McDaniel, Nick Taylor, Jarron Proud, Joe Proud, Brad Lind, Jack Lind, Tom Skipp, Kade Scott, and John Jones.

My heart is broken for the whole family. Jo Ann was such a special person. She was kind, loving and so welcoming any time anyone came to her home. She loved her family more than anything. She was so very funny and oh so witty. She could always put a smile on your face. I know she will be missed dearly by many. My thoughts and prayers are with each and everyone of her children.... Robert, Cindy, Venessa, Scarlett and Julie. May she rest in peace and be reunited with the love of her life, Lamar.
