JEWELL, L. Richey, 86, of Ashland, Virginia passed away on June 1, 2017. Born October 8, 1930, to the late Hubert H. and Ella Mae Jewell, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Lillian Taylor Jewell. He is survived by his sons, R. Craig Jewell and his wife, Pam and L. Gayle Jewell and his wife, Lou Ann. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Allison Jewell; his brother, Hubert H. Jewell, Jr.; his sister, Anne Bales; and several nieces and nephews. Richey retired from the C&O Railroad. He was active in the Ashland community where he volunteered for over 50 years with the Ashland Volunteer Fire Department and was made an honorary Chief and life member for his service. He also volunteered for many years with the Ashland Volunteer Rescue Squad and became a life member. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA 23005. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 5, 2017 at Woodland Cemetery, Ashland, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America or Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Beaverdam, Virginia.
