Gil Morrill, age 89, passed peacefully on June 1, 2017 at TRU Hospice Care Center in Boulder, Colorado. He was born in Port Arthur Texas on January 11, 1928 to Benjamin and Claudia Morrill. As a child, he moved with his family to Cincinnati, Ohio and then to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he grew up. In January of 1946, Gil enlisted in the US Army Air Corp, which became the US Air Force, and served in the US Air Force from November 1946 to November 1949 in Europe as a member of the peace keeping forces. After being honorably discharged, Gil followed in his father's footsteps and attended the University of Colorado, graduating in 1954 with a BS in Engineering. He returned to Pittsburgh where he practiced civil engineering, but always longed to come back to Colorado. In 1971, Gil realized that dream, moving his family to Boulder.
Gil was a member of the VFW and the Elks and enjoyed skiing, ballroom dancing and theater. He and his wife, Martha, enjoyed many seasons of performances at the Boulder Dinner Theater, often entertaining family and friends with a night of dinner, theater and dance.
Gil is survived by his wife of 36 years, Martha J Rowe-Morrill; his children, Diane Englerth of Canon City, CO; Janet Morrill of Los Molinos, CA; Glenn (Gaye) Morrill of Loveland, CO and Brenda (Mark Bricker) Rowe-Bricker of Boulder, CO; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Denzel Morrill and his sisters, Helen Janssen, Frances Cedar, Melva Amzi and his step-son Cary Rowe.
Gil will be laid to rest with military honors at Ft Logan National Cemetery in Denver on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 11:15am, Staging Area C.
'Gil's spirit is crossing over…I don't know why, but I could feel it. It was in the wind forceful and calling, it was in the rain soft, cold, drenching and light, it is in the calm. It is now in his hands...he is calling his peace. I can't stop crying….' ©2017 Jon Schires, Grandson Arrangements under the direction of Crist Mortuary, Boulder, CO.
