Carol Lou Hamrick Hunsinger died peacefully on Friday, June 2, 2017, with her family by her side.
Born in Boiling Springs, Carol was the daughter of the late Clifford Elijah Hamrick Sr. and Louise Whitaker Hamrick. She grew up the youngest sister of Bud Hamrick and the late Ann Hamrick Elliott. Carol's greatest pride were her two sons, Drew Charles Hunsinger Jr. and Clifford Blye Hunsinger. She loved spending time with them and their families and always encouraged their dreams.
Carol had a big heart and colorful personality. She made friends easily and brought joy to all around her. Carol was vivacious and loved to dance, and in her teens appeared on a Charlotte-based TV dance show. She radiated Southern charm. At the invitation of the Terpsichorean Club she made her official debut at the 34th Debutante Ball in Raleigh.
Her faith, commitment to education and love for family and friends were consistent themes throughout her life. She received her Bachelor's degree in education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1963 after transferring from Gardner-Webb. She taught middle school for more than 25 years and received national recognition for her teaching. She also spent numerous hours tutoring students in math and science, two of her favorite subjects. For many years, Carol held a Cotillion to teach middle school students how to dance.
Garber United Methodist Church was a big part of Carol's life. She enjoyed Bible Study, served as a Stephen Minister and made many good friends through the church.
Carol is survived by her son Drew and his wife, Rachel, of San Diego, Cali.; her son Blye and his wife, Debbie, of Nashville, Tenn.; step-grandchildren Hannah Delany and Sophie Delany; her brother, Bud, and his wife, Mary Etta; brother-in-law Bill Elliott; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and sister Ann.
A celebration of Carol's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017, at Garber United Methodist Church.
A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a gift in Carol's memory to Garber United Methodist Church or your favorite charity.

I worked at the place where Carol lived. She always made me smile. Always asked about my grandbabies and loved it when I brought them in. She will be genuinely missed.

I have known Carol most of my life but got to know her much better over the last several years. Although her health was not always great she was often the brightest part of my day! She never failed to ask about me or my family even when she felt poorly herself. I do not think I have ever known anyone quite like Carol and i will miss her dearly!

I met Carol last year in August because she was a resident where I currently work. I fell in love in with her instantly!! She was always a sassy fun energetic lady!! She was the main reason I liked coming to work!! It seems very surreal for her not to be here anymore!! I truly miss her. Room 111 was my favorite room to go into before my shift started. I will never be able to forget my favorite resident Carol Hunsinger!! I love u Carol!!!
