Mark was a good friend and I will miss his presence. We shared many conversations and challenges when we worked together at UALR. He was a great supporter.
The service was so helpful as each speaker shared their fondest memories of Mark. I pray those happy memories will stay with you as you move forward in the coming months.

RIP Dr. Krain. You were truly the most influential teacher I ever had. You had high expectations, but you were so fair and it was obvious you cared about me and my future. I hope that the work I have done as a social worker has been reflective of all that you gave to me as my professor. I have thought of you so many times through the years, and I am glad I got to see you again at the graduate school. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Doris, my heart breaks for you. The road ahead will be difficult without your love. As you know, I've traveled this journey for the past three years. But you are a strong lover of life and will make it through this dense fog one step at a time. You know your community of dance friends will be there for you when your heart, soul, and mind are ready. Blessings, dear, on this difficult journey of transition.

My thoughts are with Dr. Krain's family and friends during this difficult time. As I'm sure he did yours, Dr. Krain brought a smile to my face and a warmth to my heart each time I met him. I will always appreciate his guidance, generosity, humility, and humor. In showing us all how to navigate this world with courage, curiosity, and grace, he demonstrated that our truest education is earned outside of the classroom. I am honored to have known him.

Doris & Family,
I am stunned to learn of Mark's passing. I just received an email from him on Monday and responded yesterday. In his email, he was as curious as ever about everything and was excited about the trip he had just made to Ann Arbor. He sounded so good...
I want you to know that Mark was so special to me. Thanks to Mark, I am now a professor and I talk about him to my students every semester. As a first generation student who was blessed to have Mark as a mentor, I now mentor other first generation students and I talk about Dr. Krain and the difference he made in my life. I never in my wildest dreams would have ever imagined that I would be a professor. Mark did imagine and it is because of him that I went on to earn my Masters in Gerontology and then my PhD. I never thought I was smart enough to do either or that any university would accept me into their doctoral program; however, Mark believed enough for both of us. What a gift he gave me and one that I will never, ever forget..... He was a truly amazing man, who touched so many people in a positive way. Most importantly, he loved his family above everything and was so proud of you all.
I live in Wisconsin and so will not be able to be at the service; however, I will be there in spirit. I am thinking of you all and the grieve you are feeling over the sudden loss of your beloved husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. With much love, Tracy Schroepfer
