Regina Koeniger Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 7, 2017.

Regina Koeniger was born Regina Marie Trappey on Janaury 4, 1923, in New Orleans, LA.

Her parents were Dr. Oscar Joseph Trappey and Ruth Marks Trappey. She spent much of her early youth at the family home in Jeanerette, LA exploring the land surrounding her home. She graduated high school, ranking high in her class and went on to obtain a college degree at LSU in Baton Rouge, LA. The Great Depression shaped her character in that she developed personal discipline and prudence when it came to handling money.
During the early years of World War II while working in Dallas, TX, a friend introduced her to John Fritz Koeniger. John was drafted into the army, but due to his 4F physical status as well as having a college degree, he was assigned to a clerical unit in Dallas. Regina and John fell in love and were married in Fort Smith, AK. After the war, John went to work for the federal government's Bureau of Labor Statistics and later the National Labor Relations Board.
Regina became a public school teacher. She taught 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders in Dallas/Fort Worth and later in Austin, TX. While working full time as well as raising her two children, she earned her Master's degree from North Texas State University in education. She was very involved with the Democratic Party in Austin, including serving as a precinct chairperson. She was proud to call Ann Richards a personal friend. She was a member of TSTA and later TRTA. She was a long time member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She retired from teaching in 1979, after teaching for 24 years. After she retired, she enjoyed traveling to South America, Mexico, Germany, Greece and Canada.

Regina is survived by her two children Ruth Sullivan of Leander, TX and Lambert Koeniger of Waxahachie, TX. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Lisa Thibodaux, Frank Sullivan and Megan DeArmond. She is survived by 7 great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Tatum, Katherine, Emily, Samuel, Addison and Ethan. She is also survived by lots of family and friends.

Regina was loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She is resting in the arms of her Heavenly Father
