William Haley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 9, 2017.

William Fredrick (Bill) Haley, Jr passed away on June-8th, 2017. He is proceeded in death by his wife of 64-years Delphine Audrey Haley (1930-2016). Survived by his brother Robert (Bob), 4-children and their spouses Janet and Manual Pena; William (Bill) III and Caryn; Tom and Debbie; Robert (Bob) and Toy; 10-Grandchildren; Nicolas, Thomas (TJ), Shannon, Daniel, Andrew, John, Christina, Will, Tyler, Madison; and 4-1/2 Great Grandchildren Victoria, Haley, Michael, Jordan, and ???.

Born December-7th, 1929 in Pittsburgh, Pa., Bill served his country in the Korean War where he met his wife while stationed in Washington D.C. They married Septemeber-27th, 1952 and relocated for a short period of time back in Pittsburgh and then on to Houston, Tx. first in 1957 and again more permanently in 1959. Bill had a long and distinguished career in the oil and gas industry as a senior executive with several divisions of Dresser Industries where he was transferred from Houston to Salisbury, Md. in 1969 to 1976. Upon leaving Dresser, Bill took a position as President of Houston Systems Manufacturing and moved back to Houston. Bill was a very successful entrepreneur after retirement in 1981 as Chairman and CEO of the start-up Quality Oilfield Products, Gulf Winds, and numerous investment companies. Bill and Delphine both were long standing members of HESS (Houston Engineering and Scientific Society) and members of Lakeside Country Club.

Bill was a long standing supporter of the Houston Oilers, even throughout those years when the fans wore paper bags over their heads in shame. After the Oilers left town, he adopted the Houston Gamblers because he loved the aggressive high powered style offense and reminded him of the old AFL. He later moved on to support his beloved Texans.

Starting in 1977, Bill and Delphine enjoyed their spare time vacationing with Children, Grandchildren, family and friends in their homes in Cancun and Puerto Adventures, Yucatan Mexico. Bill and Delphine thoroughly loved the slow pace, Latin flavor, and historical significance of the area. He cherished his adopted nickname as the resident "Cruise Director".

Bill was an avid aviator for over 50-years beginning as a young adult piloting his first plane, a small Piper Tri-Pacer and culminating in his ownership of several Cessna Citation business jets. Bill's friends and family all understood his enduring love and passion for flying. It's only fitting he's pulled-back the stick upon his death and soaring the boundaries of Heaven. God's speed, Ace!
