Lester A. Wassmer, Chenango Bridge, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017. He was born on December 2, 1934 at home in Bellrose, LI, NY. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Gail of 45 years, on January 19, 2003; and his son, Dr. Gary Wassmer on April 24, 2011. All of his immediate family have died previously, his father, mother, 2 sisters and 3 brothers. He is survived by his daughter, Elaine Aldrich and her husband, Jim of Olney, Maryland and his son, Steven of Binghamton. Les was blessed with 4 grandchildren, Scott Miller (US Airforce), Dylan Aldrich of Maryland, Anna & Joseph Wassmer of Danville, Pa. and his wonderful daughter-in-law, Dr. Cathy Chayko, Danville, Pa. Les served in the US Navy from 1951 until 1955 as an aviation electrician. After his discharge with rank of AE2 he went to work for Lockheed Aircraft co. aircraft repair service at Kennedy airport. On April 1, 1956 he went to work for NY Tele in Brooklyn, NY. He worked there until June 1969 when he went to work for NY Tele in Binghamton. He retired June 1, 1990 after 34 years of service. Les loved his country, driving fast, golf, softball, bowling, hunting, gambling and he always enjoyed all of his many friends. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the Chenango Bridge United Methodist Church at 4:00 pm with Rev. Robert Clark officiating. We are saddened by the loss of a great husband dad brother uncle and friend. We all have our own special memories. My girls and I have many because we were summer neighbors. He will forever live amongst all of the family memories.all our love. I have to smile as my 3 crazy uncles are together again.
