MaryAnn Zavadoski Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 19, 2017.

Mary Ann Cecelia Zavadoski, née Fogarty 74, wife of William J. Zavadoski for 46 years passed away unexpectedly at their home in Madison, CT on June 17, 2017. Mary Ann was born on May 23, 1943 in Hazelton, PA to the late James and Ann Fogarty, later residing in Tamaqua, PA. She was a graduate of Tamaqua High School. She would continue to "ponder the chemistry of life" as the caption under her yearbook stated by attending St. Joseph's College in Emmitsburg, MD earning a bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1965. She then went on to earn a master's degree in organic chemistry from St. John's University in Queens, NY in 1968. She was very proud to have earned one of the few master's degrees awarded to a woman in organic chemistry nationwide that year.
Mary Ann was an absolutely devoted mother who cherished every minute of time spent with her family. In addition to raising her children, she had a career working at various pharmaceutical companies in Connecticut employed as a chemist. She also later worked as a substitute teacher in area schools near her home.
She particularly enjoyed music and taught herself to play various instruments including the accordion, piano and guitar. She also enjoyed gardening, photography, reading and keeping up with the absolute latest headline news. Mary Ann had a gift for making friends wherever she went and could always be counted on for lively and engaging conversation.
Mary Ann is survived by and dearly missed by her husband William of Madison, CT, four sons: William and his wife Mari Tere of Groton, CT, James of Somerville, MA, Joseph of Madison, CT and John, his wife Alyson and grandson Jack of Madison, CT and by step-daughter Dawn and husband Frank (Erlandsen) and grandsons Tylar and Patrick of Manasass, VA. She is also survived by a brother, James Fogarty and his wife Mary Beth of Schuylkill Haven, PA, nephews James and his wife Amanda of Parkesburg, PA and Matthew and his wife Ashley of Douglassville, PA and nieces Michele of Allentown, PA, Theresa of Allentown, PA and Denise of McAdoo, PA.
Visitation will be held at Zizelmann Gulla Funeral Home in Tamaqua, PA from 8:30-9:30 AM on Saturday June 24, 2017 followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. John XXIII Parish, Tamaqua, PA. Burial will follow in St. Jerome's Catholic Cemetery in Tamaqua, PA.
Mary Ann was a lifelong animal lover. She especially loved dogs. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Humane Society of the United States or the ASPCA.
