Jo PETERSON Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 19, 2017.

Jo Ruth Peterson was reunited with her husband in heaven on Saturday June 17, 2017 just in time to celebrate their 63rd wedding anniversary. Jo was born to Clyde and Iva Mae McEfee on May 29, 1935. She married the love of her life, Richard, on June 19, 1954 in California. They had five children and made their family home in Bassett, Nebraska. Dick and Jo enjoyed a long, happy marriage until his passing in 2006. Jo instilled many great values upon her loved ones, including the importance of faith, family, and frappaccinos. Her ability to love unconditionally and her unwavering perseverance in the face of life’s many great challenges serve as an example to many. Jo had a giving nature. Whether it was a member of the family, a client at work, children learning to read, or a college student looking for a home for the holidays, she loved to help those in need. The family often turned to Jo for advice, and she was particularly helpful in guiding her grandchildren. She would always give her honest opinion, and whether or not that opinion was popular, Jo was quick to remind her family that to them she was indeed a great blessing! Many in the family not only called her their mom or their grandma, but their best friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her children Mike Peterson, Lori Peterson, Steve (Jan) Peterson, Cyndi (Darrell) Brown, Pam (Craig) Anderson and grandchildren Logan and Erica Anderson, Jacob and Karynn Brown, Sara Peterson, Allie (Robby) Graham, and Thomas Peterson.

Memorials may be sent to the family for future designation.

While at Waddell & Reed today, I found out about our dear Jo's death. Please accept my most sincere sympathy. I loved Jo and her awesome, encouraging advice (even when the market was waaaaay down and eating up my money) and always felt that she treated me more as a friend than a financial client. May she Rest In Peace and enjoy her heavenly reward for all of us she helped.

My special friend, I will never ever forget our fun and special times. You were like a sister I never had. We shared so much with each other. So much in common, was sometimes scary, we could almost read each other's minds. God has reserved a special place for you along with Dick. You will always be missed.

The phrase "It takes a village to raise a child" happened after we were grown, but Jo was the epitome of the Village Mom. She provided food and rides and advice and laughter and a voice of reason to so many of us growing up together. My heart goes out to all of the family.

We send our love and sympathy to all those who grieve - especially those Peterson kids! Jo was a warm and friendly light in many lives, including ours. Our years together in Bassett hold many lovely memories including an evening spent at your dining room table while a Peterson kid (who shall remain unnamed) finished work that was owed to his English teacher. Should I mention that said English teacher left just a little tipsy (but with work in hand!)? I know we weren't drinking frappuccinos!

To Jo: it was always nice having another "Jo" around, besides my mom.
Thank you for your wise thoughts, support, advice, kind listening, sharp mind. You are so missed.
I haven't yet decided on how to tell Mom.
I hope you're talking to my Dad, right now.
you are very loved and admired,
Lori A
