Irene Edna (Althouse) Bliesath, 85, of Exeter Twp., passed away peacefully in her home after a short battle with cancer. She was the loving wife of the late Frederick "Fritz" L. Bliesath. The couple married on February 16, 1952 and spent 60 years of marriage before Fred sadly passed away in 2012.
Born in Reading on November 20, 1931, Irene was a daughter of the late Franklin and Faye (Reed) Althouse. She graduated from Gov. Mifflin Senior High School, Shillington in1949. Throughout her adult life she had several jobs, including Woolworth's, Wilson Goggles, Leininger Hosiery, Elgin Watches and lastly, AT&T Lucent-Alcatel where she was an ESD Trainer until she retired.
Irene enjoyed flowers and took pleasure in gardening. She was a frequent QVC shopper and told of how she anticipated the UPS coming with a new package. Irene loved shopping and going out to eat. She was a girlie-girl and liked things that were soft or sparkly. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are two daughters: Cynthia F. (Bliesath) Fitzsimmons of Reading and Lesley C. (Bliesath) Koch and her husband, Jeffrey of Exeter Twp.; five grandchildren: Kenneth, Vanessa, Nathan, Heather and Ashley and two great grandchildren: Quinn and Christian.
Also surviving is a sister: Joyce (Althouse) Griffith of Sinking Spring and a brother: Donald Althouse and his wife, Elizabeth "Lib" of Millsboro, DE.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Fred; Irene is predeceased by a brother: Kenneth Althouse.
Services for Irene will be at 10am on Friday, June 23, 2017 in Auman's Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on Friday from 9 to 10am. Irene will be laid to rest next to her sweetheart, Fred in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
