I had the privilege of meeting Linda 15 years ago when I first went to work for her. we quickly became friends, partners in crime. So many hilarious and memorable trips to NY, the Caribbean, PS. Linda taught me to move on, not to sweat the small stuff. She had such wonderful taste, loved the finer things in life, and how she shared it will all of us. She was generous beyond. Her motto was we work hard and play hard.

I'm raising a glass of champagne and toasting a most unique and wonderful woman. Love you Linda Sue.

I am having trouble finding the words to express how much I miss Linda. She was my boss, my mentor, my friend. Everyone that worked for her wanted to do her proud. I remember people running and slapping invoices to the window of her office to show off an invoice - nevermind that she was in the middle of something important. But I know that feeling too. I miss our talks, I miss our celebrations, I even miss when her face would turn red and I knew I was in trouble. I miss you terribly Linda. You believed in me and supported me when others would rather not. I promise not to forget what you have taught me about business and life. I love you and miss you every day.

I am so sorry and saddened to hear of Linda's passing. Unfortunately, I never had the privilege of meeting Linda. Gary and I have been friends for about 40 years. I so enjoyed Gary's postings and photos of he and Linda. I've never seen a couple so happy and able to laugh like I saw these two do. I spoke to Gary candidly a couple of times about how easy he and Linda made marriage and friendship look. That was the key, being best friends and being able to laugh at yourself, is what I was told. I could see Linda had a larger than life personality and her smile was amazing. The thing I will remember most about Linda is how happy she made my old friend Gary. They were blessed to share a love that some only dream about.

I'm a bit in shock and saddened to find out of Linda's passing. My condolences to Gary and her children. A memory I have is my interview for a Recruiter position with her back in 2009. She was full of energy and I thought to myself "this woman is a pistol, a straight shooter, a powerhouse and a successful woman with lots of love, admiration, a loyal staff and many memories around her (all the picture frames on her desk and credenza)." I was grateful that she hired me and validated my first impression about her during my short tenure at Mattson Resources. What comes to my mind when thinking about Linda is "A Class Act!" From a distance, I've always respected Linda and celebrated all her successes leading Mattson Resources. Fly with angels Linda!

I knew Linda for over a decade and she was my boss for a while, but my friend beyond. I was lucky enough to visit her a few months before she had her surgery and we had the most wonderful conversation. She got to see my girls grow up and even my husband became her window cleaner and Butler at the villas at Pelican Hill, when she visited. I will miss her laugh, strength and support. She always treated me with love and kindness. My love and prayers to your entire family and to all who knew her. She will be missed very much.

To all the Mattson and Spencer Family

Just a note to say how sorry I am passing of Linda. I was on Facebook with her and followed her journey everyday. We had incredible respect for each other as women, leaders and business owners. Please know that I will miss her energy, laugh and great sense of humor. I was always proud of her ability to rebound from any obstacles life put in front of her. One amazing friend to all those who knew her!

From the first day I met Linda almost 12 years ago, she has always been one of the most inspiring and influential women I have ever met. Joining Mattson was a simple decision because I trusted Linda with all my heart and knew she wanted the best for me. Linda, you are one of a kind and I will always cherish our moments together. Your big hair was only second to your heart and personality

Linda was always full of sunshine. Always laughing and ready to have a conversation about anything and everything. She loved to laugh and make others laugh around her. The office environment was always more positive and energetic when she was in the office. She had a great personality and she definitely touched a lot of hearts. She will be missed!!

July 11, 2017

Linda was one of the most "colorful" people I have ever met - she exuded joy, energy and fire. I appreciated her laughter, generosity and "street smarts" - she had good insight into people and situations and I learned a lot from her. Lucrecia Alcosser, (Yorba Linda, CA)

In my lifetime so many people have come and gone. Whether through people just moving on or their passing. I can't recall so many of them for they didn't leave a lasting impression upon me. This is not the case with Linda. Her bigger than life personality swept up many of us... She was silly, yet strong. Generous to a fault. An open book. She drew you in by laying all her stuff out in the open. Making it safe for you to be you when you were with her. She made the work place home, friendly, warm, sometimes with conflict and most times grounded and secure. We'll miss her. So many things remind us of her memories.

I will always remember Linda for being the person who puts people around her before herself and for uplifting those around her. You had a keen ability to see potential in so many including myself when even I didn't see at the time. Linda always lit up the room brighter than her blonde hair and big smile. She inspires by not just being able to bring the good out in every person and situation but also never afraid of touching on the uglier side of things. For this, I truly cherish and will never forget the little time I was blessed to be in her presence and have met a profoundly remarkable human being. Linda you will always be missed, my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

I am so saddened by the sudden loss of my dear friend and business partner. Linda was inspirational to everyone lucky enough to work with her...she made it fun!

Linda and I shared such a deep mutual respect for each other. As I move forward, I am grateful for the many, many memories I will have of my 20 years of knowing Linda. She was an exceptional person and very special to me.

Gary, Madison and Matt, you should know that Linda felt loved. You were tirelessly by her side up to the very end and I know she was comforted by that. Please know we're here for you all as you mourn this profound loss.

Linda's laughter was contagious and her smile lit up the room like a spotlight. Her positive energy always drew me in like a moth to the flame. As we all know, Linda loved life and knew how to live life to the fullest. She made each of us strive to be a better person and to fulfill our own destinies. Most of all, Linda loved her children and my brother, Gary. We are all blessed having Linda Sue in out lives. Look around you, friends and family from her childhood, colleagues from her past and present and everyone in between are here to celebrate her life. I adored you and was blessed to have you in my life. Cheers to you, Linda !

We met Linda soon after she and Gary moved into their new home in Villa Park. Living practically next door, we were immediately embraced in Linda and Gary's warmth and hospitality. We enjoyed many meals together and shared our favorite restaurants with each other. We met many of their friends and family at their Christmas Party and they joined us for New Year's Eve. Finding a good friend later in life is an unexpected gift, and Linda was a special friend to us for too short a time. She was passionate about her company, her friends and her family. She knew how to enjoy life and carried us along in her jubilant style. We were so hopeful for her recovery, and now are so sad for Gary and Madison and her other friends and family members who have lost such a vibrant and caring person. She was one of a kind, and we were blessed to know her.

Dear Madison... I've only met you once... at Ronis birthday party which was held at your place in Irvine. I had the chance to spend about 30 minutes talking with you and it was special for me because I was thrilled to get to know Linda's daughter! She/I were friends back in the 80's and she was a mix of fun, laughter, honesty, craziness, pissiness and just an energy to be cherished! She had all it took to be a success in business BUT being a Mom I have no doubt was her greatest love. Everything she did- she did with the greatest passion!! There is something very special about you which I saw the night we talked. I commented to Roni & Jill how glad I was to have talked with you!!! So dear Madison...sending you loving blessings from the heart and as you begin this new life! You will continue to feel moms presence in the world and may you find peace knowing how loved you are!

Thank you Gary for all your updates during this difficult time for you and your family. I grew up just down the street from the Livergoods in Brielle. Even as a kid Linda was the go getter and never let anything stop her. One of my fondest memories of her was at Brielle School. The teacher Ethel Mae Griggs would sing and play on the piano June is busting out all over and Linda jumped right up on the piano bench with her sang too, Linda held nothing back! I just reconnected with her on F/B a few years ago and will miss all updates. My deepest condolences for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I totally agree Lori. No resting in peace. Partying in peace. Working in peace. Laughing in peace. Those are what I think of when I think of Linda. She's got her big girl panties in heaven and they have no idea what's in store for them.

Patty Spencer

I remember the first time Gary went out with you and shortly after he sent me a picture of this beautiful woman with the biggest smile and a twinkle in your eyes, there was no turning back for the two of you. Fast-forward to when we met for the first time in Las Vegas for our moms 80th birthday! You were just as beautiful on the inside, gracious, nurturing, fun, and a laugh that was contagious... you took in the Spencer clan craziness with a grain of salt and LOTS of love, you even agreed to marry into the craziness! I will never forget the depth of your love for my brother and the happiness you ingrained in his soul. My heart hurts so much for Matt and Madison but you can rest knowing Gary will always be there for them. You will forever be missed, thank you for your sharing your whole heart with us. With love,

Those were the days my friend. RIP is not what I would say to Linda. She's up in heaven at the slot machines drinking her Veauve and telling stories. Kicking it up. In her red polka dot dress and high heel shoes. She was an amazing person and we both learned a lot from each other! Jelly- we were supposed to be sitting at the dock of the bay in our 80's. You fought the good fight until the end. Miss you tons! Love, P'nut Butter

I'm so sad to hear this shocking news. It has been many years since my time at Headway but I reflect on that time often.
I learned so much from Linda and have so much respect and admiration for her. I often reflect on a quote she told me one time " You have two ears and one mouth, use them appropriately or you will talk yourself right out of your next deal" Best advice ever from the most memorable boss I have ever had. I have many wonderful memories that I will always treasure from celebrating President Club honors with trips to Las Vegas and Palm Springs, to holiday celebrations at her home. She will be missed, tremendously and never forgotten.

My parents were good friends of Ruth and Jack Livergood... I have very fond memories of the times my parents and I would visit them in Brielle! My memory of Linda is one of this beautiful, bubbly, chatty, blonde, little girl... Who, by all accounts, grew up to be this exceptional woman... Loved and adored by many!!

I want to express my deepest condolences to Linda's family, friends and to those who were blessed to have Linda in their life!!❤

To my dear Headway (now Mattson) family - my heart hurts to hear about our dear Linda's early departure, as I am sure yours does as well. Corrine reached out to me last weekend to tell me the news bc she noticed I wasn't on FB much lately and knew I needed to know. For that, I'm forever grateful. It's taken me a few days to collect my thoughts and process my emotions, but knew I wanted to send a note to you all to help us remember Linda for her wisdom, HUGE heart, and unconditional love. The experience I had at Headway with Linda and you all truly formed who I am today professionally and personally. I constantly reference my memories and experiences from those days, and fondly think of you ladies more than I share. I should share those moments more -- they are so significant to me! You are significant to me. You taught me to be strong, have a voice, to be compassionate, to celebrate life, and learn from life! Linda was my first mentor, and taught me so much about business, teamwork, accountability, and that showing love for others in the workplace was not only okay but the best way to work! She allowed us to be individuals but gave us an amazing gift of feeling like family -- being family! I had no family or others out in CA, and because of Linda and how she empowered us to care for one another I never once felt alone. She was generous beyond imagination -- and gave me life experiences I'll never forget and probably never repeat. I try to lead like her today in so many ways, especially when it comes to bringing my team together and loving who you work next to. I'm forever grateful for my time with Linda and can't believe it was only for 2 years 13 years ago. It seems like it was for a lifetime and I left only a few days ago.

Unfortunately I can't go to her funeral because I'll be out of the country - I'm heartbroken I can't be there to show my love! That's why it's so important you let her know that I loved her, that I share her with so many people I know through stories, and will never forget her! In the same thought, I love you all and think of everyone so frequently. It amazes me it's been so long since I've seen you all -- but my heart is big enough to keep you close and love you from afar! Linda taught me that!

With everything I have -

Sarah (Sara)

The Eternal Effect of a #GirlBoss

Posted on June 24, 2017

Sometimes I think that not having to worry about your hair anymore is the secret upside of death. Nora Ephron (I feel About My Neck)

Nora Ephron is one of the best female leaders in the film industry and as a prolific writer she wrote great literary works that signified the courage and struggles of women in all walks of life. Until her death she left a legacy that placed her as one of the movers and shakers in the industry.

I am a fan of female leaders who defy the odds and prove to everyone that dreams can be reached whether you wear a suit and tie, stilettos, or both.

In 2016 I was given the opportunity to be part of a unique company in the staffing industry. In the midst of the big-wigs such as Adecco, Randstad, Kelly Services, Robert Half, and Manpower there stands a boutique, woman-owned staffing company in the heart of Costa Mesa named Mattson Resources. You may ask, what exactly is so special about this company? It's their fearless leader in the person of Linda Spencer.
I met Linda 2 years prior to my joining the company. In 2014 I was asked to come by their beautiful office for an interview. That was the first time I was going to be interviewed by the President of a company and I was not sure how to feel about it. When I entered her office what greeted me was a confident woman with a big, welcoming smile. I was first mesmerized by her red nails but what truly captivated me was her unabashed love for the company and its employees. I didn't get the job then but her smile and confidence stayed with me and I left her office determined to emulate her confidence and genuine love for people.

Fast forward to 2016 when I got a call from Mattson Resources inviting me for another interview. A part of me was hesitant but I remembered her red nails, big sparkling smile, and the warmth she spread. When I came the second time I did not see her around but was offered the job the same day. I was so excited to start just to be infected by her confidence.
My decision to join her company was the best thing I ever did for my career, I did not just gain a great mentor and leader but a sweet friend. Linda Spencer practiced an open door policy with no restrictions: you can go to her office to vent, to argue, to laugh, to eat and you will leave full of wisdom, ideas, stories, and a satisfied belly.

One of the many things she reminded me is that if you want to succeed in life don't ever be bothered by what other people say about you, do a darn (explicit word changed lol) good job and show them who's the boss of you.

In the past year, due to complications, Linda's health deteriorated but she still came to the office everyday with a big smile on her face and fierce determination in her walk to inspire her Mattson family. She will always remind us to wear our big girl panties and move forward, no time for a pity party when you have so many more things to accomplish. You just move on and learn your lessons.

In the late afternoon of June 22, 2017 a fierce #GirlBoss, loving mother and wife, and a sweet friend passed. Her absence now brings deep grief and pain to many but the way she lived her life prepared those closest to her not to be buried by pain but to use it as a source of strength and inspiration to live a more impactful life.

To my Linda thank you for the inspiration, the wise counsel, your friendship and the genuine love. I will miss your big laugh, your tight hug and your determined purpose.

Until then my Linda, my #GirlBoss,

love,
your CC

Heaven gained another angel yesterday and my heart is so heavy. Linda taught me to be a better and more confident woman and "business woman" in the two years I worked with her. She used any excuse to spoil the people she loved (example: she threw me a bridal shower:where I received my first real pair of lingerie : a baby shower, a going away party and that doesn't even cover holidays or birthdays) and was the life of every party. She worked hard, played harder and loved hardest. She adored her children and her husband with every fiber of her being. She was the ultimate princess and I already miss her so much. Till we meet again Linda Sue, have some Veuve up in heaven and I'll see you at our next fireside chat ❤❤❤

My heart hurts and I'm still in shock she's gone. Her smile was as bright as the shining sun and her energy as warm as it's rays. Im so thankful for all she was and all she did. She was one of those people you meet and never forget. I can hear her laugh in my head as I write this and I find comfort in that and it brings a smile to my face for now I'll keep hanging onto that.

One of my fondest memories of Linda Livergood Spencer is her love of the "party". Any time there was a holiday weekend coming up, Linda planned a party. She invited family, friends, co-workers, neighbors. Many parties had themes - I do not remember what the theme was for the party in this picture (circa 2006) - but I rented a Carmen Miranda outfit complete with fruit for my head. I can still hear her laugh when I walked in the door. Always great food, lots to drink, and we made our own entertainment. You never had to bring anything but yourself. Linda was the most generous person I ever met. EVER. One time, she wanted to go to NY for a long weekend. She invited 4 or 5 of us to join her. She made all the arrangements - first class air, hotel, and restaurants - we just had to show up. We had a ball! And then there's Linda the business woman: Linda gave more women more opportunities than ANYONE I've ever known ! She saw in people what they did not see in themselves. Whether she placed them in her company or placed them with a client, there are women all over southern California and beyond who owe their careers to her.
But what I shared most with Linda is laughter... We made each other laugh till we cried. We played off each other. It was all about the laughter.... Linda is throwing a big party up there now. And she's probably trying to tell God which positions there are to fill !!! There was only one Linda. There will never be another like her. NEVER. Thank you for the memories... thank you for showing us all how to live life like there's no tomorrow.
And thinking of Gary, Madison and Matt. ❤❤❤

My condolences to Gary and the family. Linda will always be in my heart and as long as I live, until we meet in heaven. Everyday when I am at work, I feel like I'm going to see her walk in with a smile on her face looking for her girls. May we take comfort in knowing an angel is watching over you.

So sorry for your loss. I first met Linda working at the Shoprite supermarket in Brielle NJ. She had all us cashiers laughing with her dynamic personality. Even back then she was able to make the workplace fun. Years later I would hear About all her accomplishments - as I was related by marriage to her sister Pams family. I am sure she is already one of Gods favorite angels.

Linda I always loved when erin couldn't do your hair because then it meant I got to ! Since I was her back up. I started to do your hair about 14 years ago. You never came in not smiling , you always said good morning jen . I will miss trying to get your hair big enough "cause no one did it like erin " you always told me "more spray" . You had a amazing ora that surrounded u. I will miss coming to
Your house and sitting in your bathroom doing your hair . You showing me around your home and telling me about the fabulous party you were going to have that night . You always stopped to show me your favorite picture of yourself . Lol I will miss you like crazy ! You be good up there ! Your children have two angels now . Gary is going to always keep your memory alive . I feel it! Bring Gary all the blessings he deserves .

Losing Linda Livergood Spencer isn't like losing one ordinary person. She was indescribably extraordinary. She was a part of me for nearly 30 years. She touched and changed thousands of lives in her too-short life. She inspired everyone around her with optimism, humor, tenacity, joie de' vivre, unrelenting drive, goal attainment, resilience and generosity. Her presence, lofty spirit, and leadership qualities at work and in her personal life were--as many have said--"larger than life". I think that's why it's so hard to imagine a world without her. A world without Linda's laughter? Unimaginable.

Linda will always have a special place in my heart. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be who I am today. She opened her heart to my family and always made us feel welcome in her home. We had some great times with her. I would have never been able to have the opportunity to go on a cruise or Hawaii if it wasn't for Linda, and she allowed me to take my mom with me to Hawaii and my son on the cruise. She was one incredible woman. Rest in peace dear Linda. I will always remember you.
