George Lee (G.L.) Springer passed away June 22, 2017 after a four month battle with cancer. G.L. was a loving husband of 17 years, a remarkable father, proudly served as a KCMO Police Officer, baseball coach, and friend to so many. His infectious smile, friendship to all, competiveness on the golf course, and love of life will be dearly missed by many.
G.L. was born January 10, 1972 in Kansas City, MO and was 45 years of age at the time of his death. G.L. grew up in various places but really found his home in Independence MO, where he graduated from Truman High School in 1990 and attended SMSU and CMSU later.
G.L. was appointed to the KCMO police department on November 20, 1994. His assignments included South Patrol Division, Rapid Response Team 5, South PACT, Central Patrol Division, Police Athletic League, Metro Patrol Division, Domestic Violence Section, and Metro Property Crimes Section.
It was with the Police Athletic League, his own love of the baseball, and his lifetime support of the Royals that fed his passion for coaching and teaching children baseball. G.L. was the head coach of the Naturals 9U AA baseball team but coached various teams over the years.
G.L. is survived by his wife, Danielle; two sons, Dylan and Brett, all of the home; parents, Gary and Margaret Springer; three brothers, Gary Springer, Jr., Greg Springer and Grant Springer; and sister, Lori Ritter, and many other family members.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday, June 26, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, 10500 East 350 Highway, Raytown, MO 64138. GL, I can't believe you've passed on. I will always remember your smile while we were in the Academy, along with your husky laugh. I pray that you'll be able to watch over your children from Heaven. You did good here GL!

I could have never chosen a better friend for my niece and nephew. Nor could I have asked for a more loving "nephew" for me. I will always remember you calling me Aunt Jeannie. I love you Kiddo!

I am truly blessed to have a gotten to know GL thru our time together with Police Athletic League component of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department He was a great inspiration to everyone who worked with him and/or had any contact with him in any way. The children at the PAL center admired GL and they loved him dearly. He freely shared his passion and love for his position at PAL with each and every child he met. It was my humble honor to have worked with GL and get to know "the real GL", or "George" as I sometimes referred to him, during our time together. I was truly heartbroken and devastated when I learned that GL had cancer. Generally, I am a pretty tough cookie, but this hit me hard. GL, I will always miss you. You were the best. God, your family, and your brothers and sisters in Blue will look out for Danielle and the kids Rest in Peace, I am honored to call you my friend .
