Donald R. VanHorn, age 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 23 at Fairfield Medical Center. Born in Lancaster, Ohio, Dad was the president of both his Senior Class and National Honor Society chapter at Lancaster High School in 1947. He was a varsity letter winner in baseball and basketball in his high school years. Don went on to earn a degree in finance from Ohio University in 1951 and one month after graduation Donald married the love of his life, the late Shirley Freeland. Don retired from GE in 1989 and he and Shirley spent many relaxing years golfing and visiting with family and friends in Greensboro. They decided to return to Lancaster in 2006 and enjoyed living their last few years in the company of their native community, including siblings, nieces, and nephews that supported them to the fullest.
