John Escobar Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 26, 2017.

John Pereira Escobar

John Pereira Escobar was born in Patterson, California on June 7, 1959 to Antonio Escobar and Sara La Casta Escobar. He entered into heaven June 24, 2017 at his home in Crows Landing, California.

John leaves behind his loving wife of nearly 33 years, Teresa Jean Escobar, son, Jack Michael Escobar (Victorya), and grandson, Phoenix Gabriel Escobar. He is survived by his father: Antonio Escobar Sr., brothers, Antonio Escobar Jr. (Nancy), Frank Anthony Escobar (Valerie), sister, Ann Azevedo and eleven nieces & nephews. John's mother, Sara La Casta Escobar, preceded him in their onward journey in 1972.

John attended elementary school in Crows Landing and Patterson. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in Modesto in 1977, and thereafter earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from San Jose State University. It was there that John met his future wife and greatest love, Teresa.

John was a farmer for over 30 years. He was a well respected businessman who developed and managed a successful farming operation with his wife Teresa, and son Jack, growing: almonds, walnuts, lima beans, alfalfa, and corn. As a farmer, John was well known for his attention to detail and meticulously groomed fields. He was humble, generous, and kind to his employees and business colleagues.

John believed in serving his community and helping people in need. He was active in the town of Crows Landing throughout his life. John served over 32 years, and held the position of Lieutenant in the Crows Landing Volunteer Fire Department, most recently serving as its president. When called to duty, John might be heard over the radio responding, "No Show, Just Go," rejecting the accoutrements of formal uniforms and badges. He also served as a director of the Crows Landing Community Services District and Del Puerto Water District.

John was a baseball fan throughout his life. Whether he was enjoying the recent world championships of the San Francisco Giants, or leading the Crows Landing Youth Baseball Program for 22 years, he found joy in studying and teaching the finer points of the game and the principles of honor and sportsmanship. John coached dozens of teams and many hundreds of boys and girls to whom he was the very essence of baseball. To those eager students, John will be remembered as "Hey Coach".

John followed many sports teams, including the San Francisco 49ers, and was always ready to engage in a conversation abut standings, players, history, and strategies. John and family always looked forward to their annual trip to Scottsdale, Arizona as fans of SF Giants Cactus League spring training.

John was also an excellent musician, known for his extraordinary abilities with his Rickenbacker bass guitar. His musical legacy will live on through recordings and videos of his performances. He will be greatly missed by former band mates and friends.

A loyal and loving husband, son, father, brother, and friend, a leader and a hero; the cloud of John's passing will never dim the luster of his life.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Patterson at 10 AM on Monday, July 3. Burial will follow at Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman.

Our family was so saddened to hear of John's passing. We'd just been talking about all of you days before we heard the news. Justin has many fond memories of hanging out at your house with Jack, and of course baseball (even though they were always on opposing teams). About a year ago, we were driving through Crows Landing, and as we passed your property, we wondered if you all still lived there. Within 30 seconds of that statement, lo and behold, we pass by John on the side of the road. When young men are still telling stories about their time with John, you know that he was a great guy who made a lasting impression. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Very sad to hear of John's passing. I was a Crows Landing Lion just over 30 years ago and John was my first of many coaches. His dedication and encouragement was exemplary and few to follow could compare. I credit John with developing my love of sports at an early age which jumpstarted my path to many more years in athletics. John made a tremendous impact in my life, as I am certain he did for countless others. Thoughts and prayers to Theresa and his family.
