James "Jim" Kyle Masters, 85, of Bassett, VA, went to be with the lord June 24, 2017 at Memorial Hospital Martinsville, VA. He was born on Feb. 4, 1932 in Big Stone Gap, VA son of the late James Hobart Masters and Bertha Mae Belcher Masters.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Douglas Masters, and sister, Frances Jo Masters King.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Johnson Masters and his son and daughter- in- law Jeff and Rhonda Masters of Martinsville; Step- granddaughter Shannon Hines (Jonathan); step- great grandson,
Matthew; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim served his country from 1951 to 1955 in the United States Navy aboard the USS Roanoke CL145 as a 3rd class petty officer. He owned and operated Masters Auto Repair until he retired due to disability.
Jim was a member of Fort Trial Christian Church and American Legion Post 42, Woodmen of the World Lodge 48 of Martinsville, VA, and Wednesday morning Parks and Recreation Senior Bowling League where he won numerous awards.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Collins- McKee- Stone Funeral Home Bassett. The funeral will be Wednesday June 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Collins Funeral Home, Bassett, Conducted by reverend Mike Carrow, Pastor of Calvery Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with a full military service to follow at Henry Memorial Park conducted by Martinsville- Henry County Honor guard.
