Betty Jo Sloan, age 86, passed away on June 23, 2017 in Dallas, Texas. She was born on September 6, 1930 in Southern Springs, Texas to Claude Morris Cowan and Madelyn Prothro. Betty was raised in Southern Springs, Texas and graduated from Southern Springs High School in 1947.



She married Kelsey D Sloan in 1948 and the couple had three children. She was in retail sales at World Trade Market where she worked for more than twenty years.



In her spare time Betty enjoyed puzzles, playing gin, spending time with her family, music, dominos, crosswords, reading, and travel. Her family knew her to be a walking, talking History book. Her family will always remember her as a loving, caring woman who was always full of life and happy.



Betty is preceded in death by her parents Claude Cowan and Madelyn Prothro Cowan; her husband Kelsey Sloan; her sister Marynell Cowan; and her daughter Rebecca Sloan Von Hegel.



She is survived by her daughter Vickie Sloan; son William Sloan; sisters Carolyn Cowan Stull and Claudine Cowan Slankard; brother Sonny Cowan; granddaughter Karen Von Hegel Hinshaw; and grandson Will Sloan.
