Richard Lee Monnier was born May 11, 1930 on a ranch south of Kilgore, NE to George and Goldie (Couser) Monnier. He attended school at Plum Brush near his home and graduated from Kilgore High School in 1948. In 1951, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served until he received an honorable discharge following the death of his father. He then returned to the Monnier Ranch to help his family. He built their home, farm sheds, corrals, and some of the farm equipment. He resided there until his death. He loved playing music with his family which led to the creation of the family band, “The Midnite Sun,” who played many dates in the late 60s and 70s. Sending my sympathy and condolences to Dick's family. Enjoyed his Mandolin playing and his humor at the Country Jams in Cortland. He will be greatly missed. I was fortunate to be at the June 22nd Jam in Cortland where he and several family members shared their talents. God Bless you at this time and know that you will be remembered in our thoughts and prayers. Pat Grimes
