Bridget Teresa Schinkel, age 92, of Spring Hill, FL died on Friday, June 30, 2017. Bridget was born in Ballymahon, County Longford, Ireland, on March 18, 1925, to the late Thomas & Julia McCormack. Bridget came to the United States in 1947. She attended nursing school in Glen Cove, Long Island. She worked, married and raised her children in Brooklyn, NY until 1982. She was a 35 year resident of Spring Hill. Bridget was a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked in several hospitals in Brooklyn. Locally, she was a Nursery Nurse at Lykes Memorial/ Brooksville Regional Hospital retiring in August 1992. After retirement, Bridget volunteered at Hernando Pasco Hospice for several years. She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, and sewing, making both Norwegian and Irish sweaters. She also loved music, especially Irish music. Her crafts were made with love for family and friends. Many babies were wrapped in her blankets and sweaters. Many received gifts of hand knits and needlepoint. Her greatest way to say thank you was a handmade gift of something made with love from her heart. Her door was always open and a warm bed waiting if needed. No one ever left hungry and her Irish Soda bread was the best comfort food to all who had the pleasure of tasting it. “Trixie” took great pride in her home and no weed ever, ever escaped her wrath. Bridget made sure her children were educated and exposed to culture and the arts. She instilled her faith and work ethics in them. She enabled them to follow their dreams and expected much but always gave loving encouragement and support. In these later years, she was totally devoted and doted on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She took great joy in welcoming them, nurturing them, and watching them grow. She has been and always will be loved and missed and will remain in our hearts and memories forever. Bridget Teresa was a faithful member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. . Bridget was preceded in death by husband of 46 years, John, in 1997. Bridget is lovingly survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Bernadette & Joseph Gawerecki, of Spring Hill, FL, Jean Marie & Richard Hennebery, of Brooksville, FL, and Peggy and John Schiereck, of Lawrenceville, GA, and her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen Gerard and Leanne Schinkel, of Spring Hill, FL. Bridget will be greatly missed by her 9 grandchildren; Sheila, Devin, Sean, Nuala, Ailish, Megan, Johnathan, Jessie and Tristan, as well as her 5 great grandchildren; Liam, Maddox, Reid, Connor, and Lachlan. Bridget leaves behind a sister, Maureen Jones of Dodge City, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews in both the United States and Ireland. Teresa, was indeed, a very special lady. Even though we didn't see each other often, our telephone conversations were always vibrant and entertaining. I know, without a doubt, that heaven just became a better place with her presence.....Rest now my friend.
