Michael Bramkamp
February 7, 1951 ~ July 3, 2017
Michael Bramkamp of Pacific Grove passed away peacefully on July 3 following several years of declining health. He was 66.
Michael was born to Fred and Lina Bramkamp in Ft. Bragg, NC, on Feb. 7, 1951. He grew up in Pacific Grove and graduated from Pacific Grove High School in 1969. The following year he married his high school sweetheart, Claudia Drakes, and they lived in Germany while Michael served in the US Army.
Michael had an adventurous spirit and throughout his life enjoyed travelling to distant places and exploring the world. Wherever he went, his warm smile and friendly demeanor made him a most welcome visitor.
Upon completion of his military service, Michael returned to the Monterey area and earned his Associate in Science Degree from Monterey Peninsula College in Electronics Technology. He worked briefly in the computer industry and for the City of Pacific Grove until he was hired by the Monterey Fire Department, where he served as a firefighter for many years.
Michael loved his job and thoroughly enjoyed the hard work and the camaraderie of those he worked with. After retiring from the fire department, he volunteered his time delivering meals and companionship to the homebound clients of Meals on Wheels.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carol Bramkamp. He is survived by his wife, Claudia Bramkamp of Pacific Grove; two children, Brian Bramkamp of Bushkill, PA and Julie Bramkamp of Monterey; grandson, Wyatt Pullum of Monterey and brother, Timothy Bramkamp of Pacific Grove.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory are suggested to Meals on Wheels, 700 Jewell Ave., Pacific Grove, CA, 93950. Memorial services will take place on Saturday, December 16 at 1:00 PM at The Little Chapel by-the-Sea, 65 Asilomar Blvd., Pacific Grove, California, 93950.

I worked with Mike for 11 years at the Monterey Fire Department before he retired. I remember Mike as an old school fire fighter with a top notch work ethic. Mike taught me a lot about the fire service. I will remember Mike as a kind, gentle soul with a hell of a sense of humor!! RIP. You will be missed, but not forgotten.

I will always remember Michael's smile and soft demeanor every time he walked through the doors of Meals on Wheels . He and Claudia were some of our most committed drivers, and I will always be appreciative of their longtime support and devoted friendship to our staff, as well as our homebound seniors. My deepest sympathy and kindest regard to Claudia, your children and Michael's extended family!
