Fred Garfield Lawson, Sr., 84, of Montpelier, passed away on July 6, 2017. He was the son of the late George and Emma Lawson of Cripple Creek, VA. Fred was also preceded in death by his siblings, James, Eugene, Beulah, Mae, Bill, Roy, Pearl, and Charlie. He was retired from UPS Freight with over 40 years of service. Fred was a devoted member of Hopeful Baptist Church. He loved gardening and making apple butter. He is survived by his wife, Nancy H. Lawson; children, Fred Lawson, Jr., Cheryl Lawson, and Gary Lawson (Patricia) and granddaughters, Ashley, Amanda, and Erin. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory - Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Highway, Ashland, VA 23005 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 10, 2017 at Hopeful Baptist Church, 14340 Hopeful Church Rd., Montpelier, VA 23192 at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad at P.O. Box 276 Montpelier, VA 23192. Online condolences may be registered at www.nelsenashland.com.
