Martha Soltysiak (Tryc), known as Marti, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2017 at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion P. Soltysiak in 1971. Marti raised 6 children and was employed until she was 80 years old. Her first job was at Michigan Bell Telephone as a long distance, overseas operator during WWII. She later worked as a Claim Adjuster at the Teamsters and during this time, she also developed and managed cheerleading at St. John Vianney School. Marti's career also included positions in data entry and as an administrative assistant. She was last employed as a Senior Employment Counselor for AARP, where she enjoyed finding jobs for fellow Senior Citizens. Marti loved watching Detroit Tigers Baseball and Michigan State Football and Basketball. Her favorite pastimes were going to casinos and doing scratch offs (and she usually won!). Marti enjoyed traveling throughout the US, Europe and the Caribbean. She is survived by her six children, Dr. Robert (Dawn) Soltysiak, Thomas (Laraine) Soltysiak, Kathleen Soltysiak, Tammi (Mark) DuBridge, Terese (Larry) Nichols, Sherri Soltysiak, eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her family will receive visitors Monday, July 17, 2017 from 5-8pm at Reyers North Valley Chapel. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 11:00am at St. Alphonsus Church (224 Carrier St NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505), with visitation one hour prior to mass. In lieu of flowers or memorial contributions, buy a bunch of scratch offs and Good Luck!!! LOL.

Sorry to hear about Aunt Martha. She was a special lady and I will always have wonderful memories of the times we spent when they would come visit up north and my first trip from the U.P. to Grand Rapids to her house. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Martha was a great mother and friend to her family. May she rest in peace in the hands of the Lord. I'm so sorry for your loss, there's no comparison to the loss of losing your mother.

Sorry to become informed of this. She had a heart of gold and she will live on forever in our thoughts. She was a very pleasant lady and devoted family leader. I'm forever grateful I had the opportunity to meet her and become acquainted with her family years back. Craig

So many fond memories of Mrs. S. Spent lots of time on Sundays after our weekends at the lake. She always wanted the "kids" to come back over for a nice meal that she would have prepared. She just seemed to love a crowd and had such energy. She loved her family and the rest of us tag along friends. May she rest in peace.

Martha was a light and guiding force for her family! She loved life and was grateful for it. Pulaski Days were so much fun with her and I was privledged to be able to share that with Martha and her family on several occasions. God Bless.
