Fredda Minick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 15, 2017.

Fredda Minick was born in Weatherford, Texas and spent her early years with her parents, Maggie and Fred Horton, her brother Marshall and her sister Barbara on the family dairy farm in Wood County, Texas. She graduated from Mineola High School and later married her husband of 51 years, Bill Minick.

After Bill's work with Shell Oil Company took them all over Texas, Wyoming and back to Texas, they finally settled in Beaumont, Texas where they owned and operated a recreational vehicle business and raised their three sons and one daughter.

Together they later served the United Methodist Church as missionaries in the Red Bird Mission Conference in Kentucky. Following that experience, Fredda felt called to return to school to become an ordained minister. After graduating from Union College in Kentucky she enrolled in Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University. Upon receiving a Masters in Divinity degree from TCU, Fredda was ordained as a United Methodist clergy. In the capacity as pastor she served congregations of East Texas in Chireno, Sour Lake, Saratoga, Bullard, Wildwood-Village Mills and Marlin. Fredda loved serving these churches and developed life-long friendships in each one. Ultimately, she went on to serve in the Cabinet of the Texas Conference as the Superintendent of the Bryan District of the United Methodist Church.

Fredda loved taking care of others, whether it was her family, those in need or members of her congregation. That gentle spirit and caring heart will live on in her surviving family members and friends who knew her well. Her husband, Bill has passed but she is survived by her brother Marshall and his wife Louise Horton and her sister Barbara and her husband Henry Armstrong and her children, Stephen and wife Laurie Minick of Georgetown, Texas; Robert and wife Lynda Minick of Sour Lake, Texas; Michael Minick of Galveston, Texas and Susan and husband Archie Seward of Plano, Texas. Fredda also leaves eleven grandchildren: Rebecca Boyett, Michael Minick, Christopher Seward, Sarah Minick, Amanda Reneau, Rachel Svrcek, Lloyd Minick, Brendon Seward. Matthew Minick, Paula Minick and Naomi Minick. She is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and innumerable friends.

Memorials in honor of Fredda's life may be contributed to: Red Bird Mission 70 Queendale Center Beverly, Kentucky 40913-9607Attn: Kari Collins, Executive Director

My heart is greatly saddened to learn of Fredda's promotion to Heaven...she and Bill were our inspiraton to own our first trailer from Mobile Scout, to be of that great group of travelers and then to be with her as we started Some Other Place Mission in Beaumont...they became and always remained good friends..I loved singing with the choir for Christmas at Wildwood UMC while she was pastoring there and some of us from Trinity UMC, Beaumont went up to shore up the wonderful group at that church....wisdom now tells me that regardless of age or condition of health, we are never ready to say bye to those we love...She served both God and Man in more ways that we will ever know about...he has rewarded her with this promotion....Know you were loved, Fredda, both by Patsy and me.....R. Thank you for continuing your love from beyond your earthy life. From someone that also cares deeply about God's work in the hills of Kentucky through Red Bird Mission!

She was a wonderful woman that I have known for many years. Heaven has gained another angel and, luckily, she has been reunited with Bill. My thoughts and prayers to all of the family, but especially to my sister-in-law Susan, my brother, Archie and their two sons, Christopher and Brendon. I know all of you will miss her dearly!

Fredda was an extraordinary servant of Christ and minister of the Gospel. Her quiet spirit enabled her to do incredible Kingdom work. God used her in a mighty way. I thank God for her life and ministry among us.

How fortunate we are to have shared and been blessed by Fredda's life and ministry. I am so glad that she and her family were in Beaumont as I began my ministry there. Her gracious spirit of love and commitment has been an ever present blessing. Fredda was "in ministry" long before she was ordained.

May God hold you close in your sorrow so that you know her peace and victory.

Fredda was my mentor when I entered the United Methodist ministry. In fact, my first appointment came about because she recommended me to the district superintendent. Many clergywoman looked up to her for inspiration.
