Lyle N. Peterson, 95, of Summerville, SC, entered into eternal rest on Saturday July 15, 2017 at his residence, surrounded by his family. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and keeping up with current events.
Lyle served in the United States Navy in the Pacific during WW II and the Korean War, mainly aboard the U.S.S. Yuma. He was discharged as a Sonarman First Class after service on the U S S Sprig. Lyle earned The World War II Victory Medal, The Asiatic-Pacific Area Medal with 3 stars, The Philippine Liberation Medal and Good Conduct with second award. He later joined the Mercury and Gemini space programs at Cape Canaveral, FL where he met his wife Geneva. Later, they operated a Marina and Inn, in Tennessee before continuing his working career as a Quality Assurance Engineer. Both retired from Oak Ridge Tennessee and traveled extensively before moving to Summerville to be close to grandchildren while continuing to travel. He also volunteered summer work at various National Parks.
He is survived by his son: Lyle E. Peterson of Winter Park, FL and his daughter: Rhonda H. Momeier (Walter) of James Island, SC, granddaughters: Amanda Kathryn Momeier and Johanna Lingenfelter (Robby) , both of James Island, SC, great grandson: Cadoc J. Lingenfelter and great granddaughter: Loire G. Lingenfelter both of James Island, SC. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Geneva H. Peterson.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday July 21, 2017 at CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 11 am to 12:00 pm at the funeral home.
The family is gratefully accepting floral tributes or memorials may be made in in honor of Lyle Peterson to the charity of one’s choice.

I knew Lyle through my employer Lori Gesto. To me he was always Uncle Lyle. He was a lovely man, devoted to his wife and family. He told great stories and it was a delight to visit with him here in Indiana. He will surely be missed!
