Agnes Ann (Jakober) Wagemann
October 11, 1936 - July 12, 2017
Agnes Ann Wagemann, known by Aggie, Agie, or Angie, was born October 11, 1936, on a farm in rural McPherson County, South Dakota. Aggie was the oldest child of Christ and Anna Jakober. Her brothers are Glenn Jakober and Charlie (Shawnee) Jakober, both of Aberdeen, SD.
The farm Aggie was born on is now part of the Samuel H. Ordway, Jr. Memorial Preserve prairie. The nearest town was Leola, about 10 miles away. Her early years of schooling were conducted in a one-room schoolhouse near the farm. Living on a farm, there were always chores that needed to be done, so Aggie learned the value of work at an early age -- a virtue that she later instilled in her children. As a teen, Aggie developed an interest in attending beauty school, and after high school she attended beauty school in Sioux Falls, SD. It was there that she learned to cut and style hair. After completing the program, she moved to Aberdeen, SD and worked at Shoops' Beauty Salon in the Alonzo Ward Hotel for several years.
On August 16, 1959, Aggie married Rudolph 'Rudy' Wagemann. Aggie and Rudy were the kind of parents that were involved with their children, taking them to sports events, scouting events, music and dance lessons, confirmation classes, camping, motorcycle riding, and more. The doors of their home were always open to many of the neighborhood kids that did not have a stable home life. Aggie would put a band-aid on a skinned knee while Rudy fixed a flat tire on a bicycle. With both Aggie and Rudy working, their children quickly learned how to help around the house with laundry, cleaning, yard work, and growing a vegetable garden.
Aggie always made time to help in the community. She groomed the residents of Evergreen Health and Rehab in Hillsboro for over 10 years as a volunteer, and often took food or other items to neighbors and church members who were shut in.
During their early years of retirement, Aggie and Rudy bought a motor home and traveled to SD several times as well as to other states where other relatives had ventured off. Aggie and Rudy were able to travel many years before health issues forced them to stay home.
Aggie and Rudy moved into assisted living in March of 2015. Rudy passed away that April. Aggie continued living there until July 12 and, prior to her recent decline in health, she enjoyed going to church on Sunday morning, attending family gatherings, and ladies night out with Tammy and her church family. As a two-time cancer survivor, Aggie fought hard to her last breath. She passed away peacefully with family at her side.
Aggie was preceded in death by her parents, Christ & Anna Jakober, her husband Rudy and her sister-in-law Sharon Jakober. She is survived by her four children -- Jeff of Beaverton, Jim of Hillsboro, Tammy of Hillsboro, and Terry (Mio) of Aloha -- along with her 8 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters.
A memorial will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 17625 NW Cornell Rd., Beaverton, 97006. In lieu of Flowers, Remembrances can be made to the Agnes Ann (Jakober) Wagemann Memorial and the family will help to further the efforts of the Nature Conservancy at the Samuel H. Ordway, Jr. Memorial Preserve in South Dakota, and support the Germans from Russia Heritage Society, which was near and dear to Aggie and Rudy's family heritage. Pastor Gregory Ames
I was blessed to know Aggie and Rudy while I was their pastor at SOV. We shared a common origin in South Dakota. I most remember her kind and tender ways. She blessed everyone who encountered her.

I got to know Rudy and Aggie through the North Portland Eagles Club. They both were always so friendly and happy. Now Aggie can join Rudy and dance with the angels in heaven.
RIP Aggie.
