He always was interested in the activities of his brothers and sisters, their spouses, and his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. They were the light of his life. I am shaken by the loss of Jim. I ran many track workouts with him. He actually got second at the state meet. I was there and watched very closely. He got a very close second to the guy who set the state record in the 880 the night he set the record that I believe stood until they started running the 800 meter. He was very fast and tough. We raced a distance medley race in Stillwater OK on the new synthetic rubberized track for a major meet. We had never seen one before. We put two guys who were not the fastest in for the 440 and 880. When they handed off to Jim for the 3/4 mile in last place I told the guy beside me to watch this. Jim passed them all and handed off to me in first place. I ran a personal record in the mile trying to hang on to that first place but ended up in second. Very nice person and great athlete. Good friend.

Dear Rita and Herlihy Family,
I was saddened by the news of Jim's death, and I send my sincere condolences for your loss. I will always remember Jim as he was during my first semester at OU. Jim was my Big Brother in the Beta House. I will always remember him from that era as being a very disciplined athlete and student. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

I am very saddened by Jim's passing. Have lots of memories of him, especially our freshman year at the Beta House. Jim single handedly won enough events in intramural track to enable the Beta House to place first in track and in turn win the Intramural trophy. He was fun to be around and he will be missed. I am sorry I can't be there on Friday, stuck in San Francisco. My best to all the Herlihy family. Wonderful group of guys and gals.

Jim was a wonderful young man and I had the pleasure of being in his pledge class at Ou in1975. Many memories of sports, parties, school, living and laughing with Jim. He will always be cherished as a warrior and a friend, and greatly missed by all who knew him. Great man, great family, and great memories, we love and miss you Jim.
