James Walter Paris, 83, of Martinsville passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born on May 7, 1934 to Walter Reynolds Paris and Myrtle Lovell Paris, both deceased. He was the loving husband of 55 years to Rebecca Mills Paris.
Jimmy was a lifelong resident of the Mount Olivet Community and a member of Mount Olivet Christian Church for 58 years where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Elder, and Trustee.
He was a 1952 graduate of Martinsville High School. He retired from Advance Auto Parts with over 53 years of service, with the majority of those years as Store Manager. He was inducted into the inaugural class of Advance Masters, which was the highest achievable honor in the company. He served in the US Army National Guard for six years. He was a charter member of the Mount Olivet Ruritan Club, which was established in 1972.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Michael Paris and his wife, Amy Rader Paris of Roanoke, Virginia; his daughter, Kathy Paris Wiskow and her husband, Jason Wiskow, and their children, Stone and Abby Linker and Zachary and Jordan Wiskow of Matthews, North Carolina; also, Stone and Abby's father, Walter Linker. Additionally, he is survived by his brother-in-law, Raymond Morris (late Purnell Mills Morris), and two nephews, John and his wife LaMurl Morris, and Brian and his wife Jill Morris, as well as a number of first cousins.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 11:00 am at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, 109 Broad Street, Martinsville, with Tim Mills officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 24, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jimmy's memory to Mount Olivet Christian Church, 3261 Mount Olivet Road, Martinsville, Virginia 24112.
