Miss Jacobs was my third grade teacher at Pacific Elementary School in Manhattan Beach, California. She inspired me to become a Teacher. She was the one who believed in me when I did not know how to do so myself. Instead of putting me at the reading table where the kids wore headphones to learn phonics, she invited me up to her desk to read "Little Women" to her- just the two of us. She introduced us to the art of Vincent van Gogh and took us to the Los Angeles Country Museum of Art. She wore her hair in an iconic 1960s frosted flip, and she drove a stunningly new blue Chevrolet Impala. She was smart and beautiful; clever and daring. I wrote to her quite a few years ago and expressed my gratitude towards the end of my own lengthy teaching career. She may not have remembered me after all these years, but I will never forget her.

Elaine Green was a most wonderful teacher! My sons went to River School and my younger son, Jamie Tolan, was lucky enough to have Mrs. Green as his First Grade teacher. She was always calm and gracious with her students. I think she mesmerized them with her calm demeanor! She also was extremely interested in each one of them and full of fun herself. We brought in frog tadpoles at some point and she put them in a nice aquarium in the classroom and fed them entire heads of the best butter lettuce! Most impressive! She was lovely. Our condolences to her family.
