John Robert Alford "Bobby", 84, died July 21st, 2017 at UNC Rex Hospital.
Bobby is survived by his wife Claire Lowery Alford; daughter Susan Alford Allen, husband Blaine, children Alexa and Aaron Allen; daughter Janice Alford Sherron, children John Dorsey and Jamie Sherron and his girlfriend Erica Paulosky; sister Margaret Badders Barnes; and nephew Glenn Badders and wife Brenda.
Bobby was born on October 18, 1932 in Smithfield, NC to Robert Allen Alford and Clyda Lassiter Alford. He graduated from Corinth Holders High School in 1950 in Smithfield. Bobby served in the US Army after high school until April 1961. He married Claire on September 7, 1956 and moved to Raleigh. He was retired from CP&L after 42 years of service.
Bobby was a life time and active member of the American Legion Post 297 in Raleigh. He served the post in many different leadership positions, his most recent including Adjutant. In addition to serving as a member of the 40 & 8, he was very passionate spending time volunteering for the organization.
He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Raleigh.
A funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 11am, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary's St., Raleigh. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.
