Elsie Gariepy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 24, 2017.

Elsie Mae Gariepy (Selbee) (Wenger) born, April 26th, 1935, went to be with The Lord on July 22nd, 2017. Elsie was born in rural Battle Creek on a farm where she lived with her family until her parents relocated to Battle Creek Avenue. Elsie graduated from Battle Creek Central high school following which she married her high school sweetheart Earle Wenger in 1953. Elsie remained married to Earle for 20 years, having 6 children: Kerry, Kevin, Kris, Lisa, Keith, and Kyle.

Later she remarried the love of her life and soul mate, Richard Gariepy, celebrating 28 years together until his untimely death in 2002. Elsie worked as a bookkeeper-accountant throughout her career until she and Richard became business owners of a floral shop in Cadillac Michigan which they maintained until their retirement to Florida. Richard and Elsie traveled extensively throughout their lives, enjoying cruises, buying and selling houses, running their flower shop, but the most pleasure she found in life was her family. She often remarked to others that her greatest job in life was being a mother to her children, grandma to her grandchildren and "GG" to the great grandchildren.

As her health declined she resided with her son Kris and then daughter Lisa enjoying watching the "little ones" come visit and share her chocolates, visiting with family and special friend Connie, being "Thelma" to special granddaughter Katie and watching her game shows. Her favorite foods were macaroni and cheese, her spaghetti and KFC wings. She saw many family and friends go before her but we hope she knew the love she gave out was returned back by so many. The family would especially like to give heartfelt thanks to Kylie and Sydney Maldonado along with Kathy Beebe for their care of GG prior to her passing. Elsie would like you to remember one thing in life: "Love deeply, and forgive easily."

Elsie was proceeded in passing by her parents; her husband Richard; sons, Kerry and Kevin; grandson Anthony; brothers, Milford, Ivan, and Glen; and her sisters, Mildred and Elzena. She is survived by her children, Kris (and Misty) Wenger, Lisa (and Greg) Pease, Keith (and Cindy) Wenger, Kyle (and Heidi) Wenger, and Kathy (and Bill) Scott; sister, Marilyn Graham; 17 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and her best friend Connie. Pallbearers will be grandchildren: Ryan M. Finn, Sean D. Wenger, Adam J.P. Pease, Kyle J.S. Wenger, Stephen Wenger, Hailee J. Finn, and Sean C. Wenger.

The family would like you to take a moment to reflect on the ways that Elsie personally affected you lives with her love and generosity. Her family would like to thank everyone for their love and well wishes.

My condolences to the family. I worked with Elsie at two accounting firms back in the 80's. She was a good friend and an excellent accountant. I know how much her children meant to her.

I had very nice memories of visiting Grandma Elsie an Grandpa Gariepy. It's sad they are both gone now. Sometimes things happen for a reason. I found it very interesting that Grandma Elsie passed on the same day that Grandpa did. 9 years ago I had my son on July 22 also. I remember my mother saying to me can't you hold it till after midnight. Lol... I told Grandma Elsie about this an of course she did not forget the day. A day of joy a day of sadness. I think that my son was born on that day for a reason. So as the years go on July 22 is a happy day for me. An I really think Grandpa & Grandma don't want us to be sad. So I hope there will be another baby born to Grandma Elsie family on July 22 also to bring joy to the family.

John 10:28-29 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.

I was so sorry to hear about Elsie. She was such a great lady! Fun to be around and a great sense of humor. We had some good laughs at church. I know my mom loved her, working with her and spending time at church doing things with her. They had a wonderful relationship. I missed her a lot when she was unable to attend church and always knew from Connie what she was up to. She has been in my thoughts and prayers, but I know she is now in the best place she could be. She was a wonderful and very special friend and I will never forget her. Nancy Kay Drolett, (Gunnisonville United Methodist Church)
