I first met Mr. Shetter while taking swim lessons in the mid 70s and it was my treat to have him as my science teacher in the '84-'85 school year.
We lived about 2-3 blocks apart so the occasional Shetter sighting at the Tampa Bay little league ball park was not unusual. His infectious sense of humor and genial personality always left a smile on your face.
I still tell stories from the science class days. He touched thousands of lives and he will be missed.

Mr. Shetter was my home room and Science teacher at Coleman when I was in 9th grade (1963-64). My dad passed away that year and Mr Shetter came to our house on DeLeon and took apart and removed the cage building Daddy had grown his tomatoes in because every time my mom saw it in the back yard, she would cry. In 1968 Mom and I moved to Virginia briefly. When we returned to Tampa. Mom (Sallie Mullaney Parsons) bought a house on Mullen next door to Bill and Bev Whitehead and the Shetters became our neighbors. I will never forget the love and kindness Mr. Shetter and his family showed me and my family from the first time I stepped into his classroom until Mama passed away in 1995 and we lost touch.
I am sorry for your loss; i know you will miss him terribly every day. I hope you can find some comfort in the legacy he left through every life he touched. With love and prayers.

When I think of Mr. Shetter, I think "foot pounds of torque and simple machines". He was an awesome teacher that made the mundane seem
interesting. He will always be remembered.

Only certain teachers are able to leave us with permanent memories. Ironically, Mr. Shetter left me with a simple and non-scientific quote that I hear in my mind every so often...its even in his voice. "Do good, don't do bad".
God bless you, Mr. Shetter...you may not have ever known your broad sphere of influence. And peace to you and your loved ones.
