Larry James "Dude" Rakes, 73, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at his home in Collinsville. He was born in Martinsville on May 19, 1944 to the late Cecil Elije and Juanita Bost Rakes.
Larry is survived by two daughters; Connie Tuck (David) of South Carolina and Laura Rakes Thomas of Collinsville; Grandson, Aubrey Thomas (LeAnne) of Rocky Mount, VA; Granddaughter, Mikayla Thomas of Collinsville; Great- Grandson, A.J. Santillo of Collinsville; Sister, Ann Hedrick (Roy) of Rocky Mount, VA; former wife and lifelong friend, Frances M. Rakes; and special friend, Nancy Thomas.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son- in- law, James Darwin Thomas.
Larry enjoyed spending his time fishing, hunting, and cooking and was of the Baptist faith.
A visitation will be held Sunday at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett Virginia at 2:00 p.m.. Service will follow at 3:00 with Dr. J.D. Harmon officiating.
In lieu of flowers, send donations to charity of your choice in memory of Larry Rakes.
