Virginia Buntain Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 11, 2017.

Virginia Rose Buntain, 92, of Terre Haute passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Harrison's Crossings Health Campus. She was born on tax day, April 15, 1925, in Clinton to Roy and Rachel (Thomas) Bozarth.

Virginia retired from GTE Telephone Company after 28 years of service as a Business Account Representative. She and her husband Howard bought a home in a retirement community in Ft. Pierce, FL, where they spent the winter for 20 years. While in Florida, they made many lifelong friends from all over the country. Due to health issues, they sold their home and moved back to Terre Haute.

Virginia loved college basketball, especially IU, and enjoyed having in depth discussions with anyone who followed the different teams. She was a member of Northwest Church of Christ, Kerman Caldron Daughters of Mokanna, Past Mighty Ones Club, 12 Points Eastern Star Chapter 528, and Badoura Temple No. 23 Daughters of the Nile.

She is survived by a grandson, Bradley Buntain and wife Bonnie of Terre Haute, granddaughter, Ronda Weiss and husband Mike of Coal City, great-grandchildren, Eli Buntain, Shyleigh Buntain of Terre Haute, Erica and Jenna Weiss of Coal City, step-great-grandson Jonah Melcho of Marshall, IL, brother Max Bozarth and wife Marilyn of Bella Vista, AR, sister-in-law Helen Blanton and husband Carl of Robinson, IL, brother-in-law Duane Buntain and wife Helen of Bardstown, KY, special daughter, Sharon Scott of Terre Haute, lifelong friend Faye Elder, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of nearly 75 years, Howard Buntain in July 2017, sons, Ronnie Buntain in 2002 and Rex Buntain in 2004, great-grandson, Bradley Shane Buntain in June 2017.

Visitation will be held from noon until 2:30 on Monday, August 14 at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:30 on Monday, at the funeral home with David Grubb officiating and funeral rites performed by several of the organizations to which Virginia belonged. Virginia will be laid to rest next to her husband in Roselawn Memorial Park. The family would like to thank Dr. Dultz and Dr. Kahn, the staff on the east wing of Harrison's Crossing, Hospice of the Wabash Valley, and caregivers Wandell and Helen. Oh, my!! I cannot tell you the grief and shock I had when I opened this morning's paper and saw where Virginia had passed! I had called and left a message after Howard died last month, but did not know she was at Harrison! I worked with Virginia at GTE many years ago and we became great buddies! I know she is rejoicing with Howard and her sons and good friend, Ginny, in heaven now! Please accept my most sincere sympathy!
