William Mammoser Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 8, 2017.

William Joseph Mammoser

b. 22 Dec 1932 in Chicago, son of Harold and Rose Mary (née Deveny) Mammoser.

d. 2 Aug 2017 in Ross, CA.

Married to Mary Seiter of Conway, Arkansas, 31 Aug 1962.

Survived by wife Mary, sons Alan (52), John (47), and daughter Rosemarie Nicole (51), son-in-law Courtney Haslett, and three grandchildren: Mary Ines Haslett (14), Charles William Haslett (12), Lynnea Marie Mammoser (12). Also by sister Madolyn and brother-in-law Dr. John Corcoran.

Bill attended Catholic High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He graduated from Georgetown University in 1954, then served in the U.S. Army 1955-57 at Seventh Army Headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany.

Bill began his business career working in audits for Price Waterhouse in Chicago. He attended evening classes and received a Master of Business Administration degree from Northwestern University in 1962. He worked in corporate management for Hallicrafters/Northrop in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, Rodman Industries in Rock Island, Illinois, Tecumseh Products Company in Tecumseh, Michigan, and Johnson Controls in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Bill was a devoted husband and father. He was active in civic organizations and Catholic parishes wherever he lived. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Bill was a sports fan, beginning as a boy in Fort Wayne when he listened to Chicago Cubs games on the radio. He always enjoyed watching baseball and basketball and he played tennis in younger years. He enjoyed all kinds of games and played bridge with Mary and their friends for many years. He enjoyed taking his sons fishing and playing ball with them.

Bill appreciated music and often attended classical concerts and jazz music events. He read a lot and had a passion for stories about sports, historical novels, espionage classics and mysteries. Bill loved mountain hiking and took his family on several summer trips to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. He also enjoyed visiting his wife's relatives in Arkansas and took the family to Conway for many summer vacations. He and Mary enjoyed retirement years in Ann Arbor, Sun Lakes, Arizona and Novato, California.

He lived by the highest Christian norms and left us with the eternal values of fidelity, gratitude and honesty. His example imbued in his children a natural desire to leave the world a better place.

A funeral mass will occur Friday, September 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary parish in Chicago.

A very nice and caring man. His parents helped me and my parents immigrate to Fort Wayne, Indiana. Harold and Rosy were wonderful and caring and supportive. Bill bought me a Mozart concerto record that I just loved. He did too. It had a scratch on it that really bothered me, the sound of it. Bill was never bothered by it.....amazing...he was very calm and caring. So sad to see him leave...
