Mary S. (Pomprowicz) Irla, age 94, of Fall River, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2017 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Matthew Irla, Sr.
Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Kondej) Pomprowicz, she was a lifelong resident of the city and was a lifelong member of the Blessed Trinity Parish of the Polish National Catholic Church.
A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, class of 1940, she worked for Firestone during the war as a gas mask inspector before staying home to take care of her family. She also worked as a school lunch aide at the Fowler School, and enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing.
She is survived by two daughters, Beverly I. Dyer and her husband Robert S. of Alexandria, VA and Barbara Irla, Esq. of Fall River; several nieces and one nephew. She was the mother of the late Matthew Irla, Jr. and sister of the late Anne Bronhard, Stephanie Krecioch, Stasia Dygas, Katherine Maslanka and Lena Pomprowicz.
The family would like to thank the caregivers, especially Maria, Melissa, Amy, Pat and Jessica for the love and care of their mom over the years.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 10:30AM at the Waring-Sullivan Homes at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River followed by burial in the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery, Fall River. Visiting hours will be Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 4:00PM to 7:30PM. Contributions in her honor may be made to the Perpetual Care Fund of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery, c/o Blessed Trinity Parish, 1340 Plymouth Ave., Fall River, MA 02721. I always looked forward to her welcoming hugs when I visited and the excitement with little presents she received from me it always put a smile on my face.
